Don't you hate it when you make a mistake and realize it was a mistake a split second after it's too
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 05:24 PM by NewWaveChick1981
late to fix? :( You know, like locking your keys in your car or sending a sensitive email to the wrong person? :yoiks:

I made a mistake along those last night and I've been kicking myself over it all day. :( I caused some embarrassment to someone (accidentally, of course), and I feel very bad about it.

1. Miz t. wrote a very nasty email to a niece.
(The niece deserved every bit of it, by the way.)
She read it to me.
"I know how you feel, and I agree, but that IS a little harsh."
"I know. I'm not gonna send it. I just had to get it out of my system."

And then she hit 'send' instead of 'delete'.
Oh dear.
:-(

3. Well, at least that gives you the maximum possible time to plot how you're going to
fix the mistake (or shift the blame). I'd rather be aware of a screw-up immediately than have it come up unexpectedly in a meeting with the boss, for example...

wanted to make amends. I hope it works. :)

7. I call it the Wiley E. Coyote Effect.
That nanosecond before the rocks fall on your head (the ones wedged in the cliff that won't budge and you jab at 'em with a stick), you hold up the sign reading "What in the name of heaven have I done!?" :banghead:

11. Locked my keys in the car. With the engine running.
I got out of the car to open the garage door, and shut the car door *with the lock button down*, and just as the door swung shut I thought, "Oh, fuck..."

:yoiks: The one and only time I ever locked my keys in the car, I realized it as the lock clicked. :( It's like watching things in slow motion. I had to call my husband to bring me his keys, and he was less than thrilled---my office was 20 miles from our house, and that's where he had to go.

44. Did that with my front door. Twice.
Once at 2 in the morning. I had to track down a loitering cop car and ask for advice. They drove me to an all-night gas station where I could call a locksmith, and I found that all those listings in the phone book that claim they're on "24 hour call" are not anything close to that. I found one guy who would actually come out, and he charged me $90 for the privilege of getting back into my home.

Now I'm super-obsessive about checking for my keys before I pull the door shut. Sometimes 3-4 times before I'm convinced that yes, I really do have them with me.

15. OMG Yes!
I sent an e-mail a few weeks ago to a lady that works for me as our marketer. The e-mail was a long discussion between me and my director. We had been talking about the fact that the program I work in was having problems and we needed to get the marketer doing some things differently. Well there was some kidding around in the e-mail, and some things that were just between my director and I and her feelings about the marketer.

So, idiot me, pulls this e-mail out of a file and adds to it without reading the whole thing and not remembering things I'd put and my director had put, and I send it to the marketer and our secretary.

I get this call from the marketer, she's in tears, wondering if she should be looking for another job. I spent the next hour with her, then the next day I had to get the director and her together as well because now the director was pissed at the marketer for "overreacting"

Yes, I felt STOOOPID! that day, but I read through the e-mails I send and am learning not to put shit in writing that might get sent to someone.

18. For me, it tends to be things I say. I'll be in a nasty verbal throw-down
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 10:41 PM by Aristus
with someone, and I'll think up a corker; one guaranteed to slice, dice, maim and cripple. Just before I say it, there'll be this little voice (dontsaythat), and then it's out. I almost always regret having said it. Have you been in a situation like that where you say something and all conversation in the room comes to a jangling stop? People stare in disbelief and eye one another uncomfortably. And you realize you've said something truly AWFUL?

I finally started listening to that little voice (dontsaythat), and have avoided some potentially bad situations as a result. But I still regret the pain I caused other people in the past.

30. Wow... you sound like
a few people I know. I'm a pretty nonconfrontational person, but there are occasions when I don't keep my mouth shut and probably should. In my profession, I have learned to be self-censoring in what I say, and I know how to be diplomatic---but outside of work, that doesn't always happen. :yoiks:

39. Ribs, Chicken, or both?
I'm a parboiler, followed by slow cook over the coals, NOT smoking, and I use a finishing sauce. KC/CHICAGO vs NC. We can make it HOT, HOT and SWEET, MEDIUM or MELLOW and SWEET. We be very flexible (in cooking at least!)

Local VG's makes good enough slaw and potato salad: don't want too much distraction from the MEAT anyway.

Corona, Single malt, Irish? Have to stock the fridge, y'know.

Wish it was June. I LOVE to grill.

42. The invitation is yours then.
We live between Flint and Lansing in Michigan. Coordinate a time when you'll be in the area, and the eats is on us. You won't regret, and we'll likely have news of the local Dems and possible Gore support.

LYNS

(By the way, my closest friends and I use LYNSFR when someone's down: "FR" for "FOR REAL" although I haven't seen it in emails in a while. Downside of being in a fair to middling mood vs deep depression!)
