Anyone Else Ever Get This Lucky? |
|
Last week I'm driving down to south Louisiana- driving down US 71 ( a two lane highway with lots of traffic that winds around the Ouachita mountains) and I'm going about 75 mph- suddenly I look and there's a cop 2 cars behind me. I pulled over to let him pass or whatever, he pulls up behind me and tells me to pull forward to an area where there was more room so I did. He pulled the other car over too.
So I wait for him, hands on the steering wheel, he says "did you see the 35 mph speed limit sign? I said no because I didn't, and didn't even pay attention that I was in a "town" (if one can call it that) then he asks for my insurance verification (we're in the van which my wife drives and so I look in the glove box and it ain't there.) I find the registration and tell him the insurance isn't there. He takes my license, and the registration and goes back to his car.
I'm thinking 75 in a 35, no insurance verification, geez, what's this gonna cost.
He comes back hands me my license and registration and tells me to slow down. I leave with no ticket.
I was in shock! He's giving the other car a ticket.
anyone else ever get this lucky?

3. Last year, I forgot to renew my car registration. |
|
I totally forgot about it. A cop pulled me over on my way to work several months later. He could have given me a ticket, impounded my car. It was in the town where I live, and the registry happens to be just a few blocks away. Because of that, he just gave me a warning and let me drive to the registry to renew the registration. Phew!

So I'm driving into this town to deliver a summons. I brake because there's a school zone, but I'm still doing 45km (+-27 mph) in a 40 (+-24 mph zone). I get flagged over and this stunning blonde cop walks over and says, It's zero-tolerance day, Doug. I'm going to have to do this since I've stopped you, public place and all.
She takes my papers over to her car, comes back, hands me my ticket, says "here's the ticket, but it won't be processed."
We smile, say bye and I drive away.
I look at the ticket, she's made a small mistake, enough that the ticket is what is called "not regular on its face" anbd would therefore be quashed if challenged.
BUT, she has also written "call me" and put her home number on the ticket.
I never had the nerve, plus I was married at that time.
On edit: yes I knew and had worked with her previously.
On second edit: I knew her, not I "knew" her.

I just knew I was going to get nailed there
maybe he felt sorry for me? Wife and kid, late at night, it amazed me.
If he'd known that we were having a spirited debate about how pot should be legalized prior to getting stopped.
I'd had about a gallon of tea and was wired for sound and laughed for about 20 miles after I pulled out and proceeded to speed as soon as I got out of that little town-er speed trap.
Did slow down going back through it on the way back
