Who won't have a Christmas tree this year? And why?
In my case, due to having two cats.

1. I am considering putting one up this year,
but I also have two cats, and so far the signs aren't good. The younger one has already tried to eat some fake evergreen decorations, which I finally had to put on a shelf out of reach. I'm going to try putting up a smallish fake tree, but I'm not optimistic. Chaos is a probability.

2. no tree here...
lots of confusion, commotion, and some re-modelling going on, as we prepare to move to new digs at the end of the month/year.

3. It's a pain in the ass to keep a tree in your house.
With all the other holiday bullshit to deal with, adding another hassle doesn't seem worth it.

5. none for me
I've never had a tree, which is probably just as well, since I have cats too, and they would likely wreck it.

6. Dogs, in my case.
It wouldn't last 10 minutes. Which is sad, because I like having a tree, but I just don't have a place to put it right now where it would be safe - or safe for my pets.

10. Go to the thrift store and buy a used playpen or crib
Set the tree inside and everything is wonderful. This won't work for cats.

36. Now that's a good thought!
It might even work, except most of mine are tall dogs, and very agile - and two of them get into more trouble than all the rest put together. Still, I'll definitely consider it. Thanks for the idea!

We can decorate it cheaply too!

9. No tree this year. My wife and her mom are going to London...
just after Christmas. It's something they've been planning for months. But no way am I gonna sit around with our two cats and stare at the darned tree.

So, no tree this year, and that's okay with me! :bounce:

11. I won't.
Since moving out of mom's house, I haven't done the tree thing. Don't see much of a reason. No humbug here, I'm just not killing a tree for a couple weeks of enjoyment.

Besides...14 dogs. Just imagine the fun with having a tree...inside. Like a big Porta-Potti in the living room, eh?

We're going away for Christmas, plus I have a 3-year-old who MUST TOUCH EVERYTHING, no matter how many times I tell her not to. It saves me a lot of aggravation.

29. I might have one but it's doubtful
I just never liked trees anyway, and certainly do not care for decorating them. It Iowa though I used to get a free one every year, just as a natural pine scented air freshener. I would simply goto a place that sells them and ask for a free one at about 4 PM on Clausmas eve. They are just going to throw away the extras anyway.

Since I moved though I have not found a nearby place that sells them, and doing so now is problematic since I do not have a car.

30. haven't put one up in a few years
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 05:23 AM by radfringe
It's just my partner and I. The only place to put up a tree is in the livingroom, and in the winter that room gets too cold to be comfortable. The only way to heat that room is to blast the furnace and that means the rest of the house turns into saunas.

It's alot of work to put up the tree, flip on the lights, go ooohh ahhhh, turn off the lights and not be able to enjoy it because the room is too cold. Then you have to take the tree down after New Years. A lot of work for a couple of minutes of pretty lights.

We typically don't have company during the holidays. My partner is Jewish, and I really don't care if we have a tree or not.

We did do a table-size tree a couple of times, but again, the only place to put it is in the living room.

Did I mention we also have 5 cats and 3 dogs?

My partner has said a few times that if I want a tree we could do one. I told her that Christmas and Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and the Winter Solstice is in the heart, not in the decorations.

We do the Menorah, and hang a wreath on the back door. Beyond that, being together and sharing the holidays is more than enough
