I am pleased to report that my carotids are as clear as hosepipes. |
|
:-)
Had an ultrasound done yesterday, at doctor's suggestion. When (if?) you get to be a geezer, be prepared for a lot of things the medical profession wants you to do to you "just to be sure".
The technician said it could take as long as an hour. :wtf:??? I had figured whip the probe back and forth a few times and off to lunch. Took about 30 minutes. Lots of beeping, squeaking, and whooooshing going on.
When she finished I say "How's it look?" "I'm sorry, sir. I can't answer any questions. Your doctor will be in touch with you." Jeez, not even a "Looks OK"? Double Jeez. Maybe it AIN'T OK.
Then she says "OK, you can sit up now, but DON'T STAND UP." I comply. "Do you feel OK? Yeah, fine. ??? "OK, now stand up slowly." I can do that. "Still feel OK?" Yeah, fine. "Shouldn't I feel OK?" "Sure." "Am I OK to drive home?" "Oh sure."
Funny, I felt great when I came in here and now I'm not so sure. Do I actually feel a little dizzy? Is there some blockage there? Is my brain getting enough oxygen? damn
The doc's nurse called a few minutes ago. "Mr. trof? Just wanted to let you know the scan came out fine. Carotids are clear as a bell." whew
Well, I ain't strokin' out today, anyway. I think it's time for a drink. I deserve one. Keeps the carotids clear, ya know. :toast:

2. I'm not so geezserish and I've had my right carotid Roto-Rooterd. |
|
A lifetime of diabetes'll do that to you, though.
Glad to hear this! Those precious carotids feed the brain oxygen and they don't respond to Drano... :bounce:

3. Friend I walk with had that done a while back. |
|
On our walk this morning, before I got the good news, I had him give me a blow-by-blow. He's a retired physician so I got the real technical stuff. Did they put you out, or just do a local?

The really sad thing is--I've had stents put in my brain.
BUT! I am way healthy, happy, and able to see my 9 year old son grow thanks to it all.
Life is truly a grand, grand, thing!

Arthur had local during because he had to keep talking to see if he started slurring. Bits going to brain. <shudder> For the closing up they put him under.
So glad you're happy and healthy and be with your boy. :-)

The pain is really not that bad right now, and the pill made me pretty queasy anyway. So, my short-lived career as a junkie appears to be over. :(

I always look forward to the 'collateral benefits' of major dental/surgery events. ;-)

6. You? A geezer? Fuggetabboudit. |
|
 Good news. Having been down the road with cardiac issues, although the cure is worse than the alternative, it's no picnic.

We're not ALLOWED to tell patients anything about their tests. Period. That's why we have to say lame shit like above nurse said. I often know the results of a test, or at least have an impression - but I'd get ripped a new one if I said too much to the patient about it. Sigh. Gotta makes sure the doctor looks smarter than us ya know.... Some tests are highly technical and I couldn't tell you anything anyway - that's also a possibilty.

I think she knew. A wink and a nod would have been nice, but I understand about liability and pecking order and all that. I wasn't exactly sweating bullets during the ensuing...what?...18 hours? But I was entertaining the possibilities of 'what if?' Thanks.

18. Lots of my people don't get results for a week or two. |
|
Some of the tests have to be analyzed, others I know at the end of the day - but they have to wait for the docs to get around to looking at them. They aren't usually tests that are as urgent as a doppler of your carotids though... :-)

Now, there's good news!
I'm very happy for you, sweetie!
Let's hear it for geezers! :toast:
I'm probably one too, at age 63...
My last checkup with my cardiologist, he listened to mine, and pronounced them clear......
He's very good, and I trust him....
I'll have a stress test in the spring......my second one.
Enjoy your drink!
