Who else believes Christina Aguilera has matured into a great singer??
Especially recently, she's had some great songs like "Hurt" and "Ain't No Other Man". Anyone besides me think she overcame the "Britney" taint and is showing that she has real talent these days?

1. For what it's worth...
I always thought she had way more talent than the Britster.

4. Both of her latest are really great songs
Hurt is a ballad and it really showcases what a beautiful voice she really has. Ain't No Other Man is a really fun, up-tempo song. You should check them out! :hi:

I repeat--IMHO--before you flame me! :hide:

7. No flames here
WTF happened to Gwen Stefani anyway? I used to love her stuff and, probably like you, thought she'd just get better. The first time I heard that Hollaback crap, I gave up on her. Gawd, that was nauseating stuff :puke:

She could have stayed with the trite love songs and still done well. Instead, she's taking a few risks and done very, very well.

15. She was always a great singer.
Even when she first came out, I knew this girl was going to be a star.

yes, she had a lot of bubble gum stuff early on but she was just a kid.

Then she went through the dirty stage and now, she's just amazing.

I love her.

I think I am obsessed.

I love Christina so much!!!!! :loveya: Xtina

16. She has always been a phenominal singer.
It's her material that has matured.

She's had a set of pipes since she was 9 years old.

17. I don't think she ever had a 'Britney taint'
the only people that ever really classed her in that category were folks who never heard her sing or who don't like women in particular, especially young girls, and were biased at the outset. I really admired her for her overt, honest sexuality as well. I'd actually rather see her do things like "Beautiful", to tell you the truth, and "Aint gonna hold us down" or whatever; also, "Fighter" was an excellent song, than R&B numbers because it just comes off being imitative. I think she should emulate Tina Turner rather than 'Retha or Patti LaBelle. She has the pipes, but her life experience makes the songs above seem a little more authentic.

I think she's great. Really love this album, props to her for paying tribute to the genre and those who came before. It really shows off her voice. I also love the fact that she has positive songs about her man,not ones tearing him down.

21. As a voice talent ...

She surpasses most of her peers by a wide margin. I thought her first few songs were the worst utilizations of her talent and flatly hated them.

I'm not particularly a fan of her kind of music, but I recognize talent when I hear it, and she has it. I think she's been able to break free of the "bubble gum pop" much to her benefit.

24. That was what I meant when I said "matured"
She always had the talent, but stuff like "Genie In a Bottle" just didn't do it for me at all and turned me off to her at first. I'm glad she broke free of that and is using her talent for something other than the "bubble gum" crap.

25. All Right Now ...
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 11:53 PM by RoyGBiv
She sings a version of "All Right Now" that I truly love. I tend not to like covers of older songs, preferring the original, but she beat my prejudices with that one. I have a video and and mp3 of it on my computer, and they are high on my play lists.

By contrast, Britney's version of "I Love Rock 'N Roll" evokes an explosive gastric reaction.

26. She is a great singer!
When she was on SNL - she did a song with Tony Bennett that was good too.

She is unique among the genre - she can hit the note and stay on key!

27. I always thought her voice was amazing.
I remember watching some Christmas In Washington special years ago when Big Dog was prez, and some young blonde girl was singing O Holy Night. I couldn't believe how good she was. It was Christina. It seems she has finally found herself. I wish I could sing like that.

I never understood the whole "skank" look for her. I guess it got her a lot of publicity, and a lot of album sales.

she is a fantastic singer. I don't like all her songs but she definitely won the "battle" against Britney.

33. I think she's the best female pop singer today
but like too many today, she relies way too much on vocal tricks -- melisma, overdoing the power notes, etc.
