"Banished" words for 2004.
2004 List of Banished Words
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Hardly looking 'metrosexual,' a 'shocked and awed' Lake Superior State University Word Banishment selection committee emerged from its spider hole with its annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness.

LSSU has been compiling the list since 1976, choosing from nominations sent from around the world. This year, words and phrases were pulled from more than 5,000 nominations - a record. Most were sent through the school's website: www.lssu.edu/banished.

Word-watchers pull nominations throughout the year from everyday speech, as well as from the news, fields of education, technology, advertising, politics, and more. A committee gathers the entries and chooses the best in December. The list is released on New Year's Day.

The complete 2004 list follows:

4. I think it's okay to use it if
you mean it literally. The people that bug me are the people who apparently don't know what it means, because they type "LOLOLOLOL!" What, you're laughing out loud out loud out loud out loud?

8. I am COMPLETELY with you
"Meme" drives me nuts. It is used by people dodging the real argument. They don't like your opinion (or a documented fact unflattering to a candidate), so they dismiss it as a "meme" and somehow think they have won the logical upperhand. :wtf:

9. I don't agree with "Punked"
People I know have used that for years to describe when something's been stolen. example, "Somebody punked my walkman"

10. Whatnot
A rather snobbish term. Why don't they just say whatever? Ah, whatever.

11. They claim "smoking gun" is from Iraq? WTF?
That's an old one, real old. Other than that, I love the list. The word "metrosexual" annoys me to no end.
