Now that I'm a yuppie, must my art be framed? |
|
A Martha Stewertesque question:
Alright, I've got a reasonably decent studio in SW Connecticut. I know that I can't put up, say, a Trainspotting poster without looking like a dummy who doesn't realize that he's out of college.
But: Can I put up my prints (Picassos mostly) with sticky-tabs? Or do I have to frame them?
I really don't want to go through the hassle of framing these things, either via someone else, or doing them on my own.

1. I'm strictly against framing posters |
|
Except maybe really good art posters or rare ones (exhibition posters etc. ).
Then again: I'm not yet out of college :hi: .

3. Well, they're reasonably nice |
|
They're art.com prints... fuck it. I can't be bothered. I'm buying the sticky tabs.
Out of curiosity: where are you in school geographically? (I notice the EU circle)

And I've noticed your username. One of Berlin's greatest, great choice.

8. Freie Universitaet vielleicht? |
|
Well, I had a German teacher who said--"Willy Brandt: Ein Schlaukopf!"
I don't why, but I thought it was funny, and it sort of stuck. A good guy.
Would you prefer "FranzJosefStrauss"? :)

So it's TU (the one with the ugly 80s logo). I had my German literature and a few history courses at the FU, but that's it.
And don't get me started on "Den Kandidaten" :puke: That's worse than "Birne", although the latter had the incompetence bonus/malus.

If you'res till using a utility company cable spool as a coffee table and some cinder blocks and 2x4s as an entertainment system, too much framing might be overdoing it.
But you're asking someone who is sitting in a room full of framed new wave album covers.

Getting the posters mounted on fomecore board isn't too expensive (compared to framing) but it keeps the posters looking good, and is more professional than just tacked to the wall, without looking like some pony-tailed 80s movie producer. You can prop them up on pushpins, or get a narrow shelf to set them on...

5. I have some rare movie posters drymounted on wood. |
|
Anyone who offers the foamcore option can also do it on wood, which is far more durable than the foamcore. I had a few really rare posters foam-mounted, byt they've become damaged after a few moves (dogeared, etc), and they can't be repaired.

put a little effort into the look of your place and get them framed. think of it as self expression. it's nice when your place looks pulled together.
