1. It's bullshit, but it has a mind.
Not a fan of sports, but have to admit that yo do need a brain to understand the stuff...I find the jargon-and-trivia retention ability of most sports fans almost awe-inspiring.

I'm a music nerd, but there's nerds for all pursuits; none are superior or inferior to others.

2. I LOVE sports
As someone much smarter than me once said (and I'm paraphrasing, because, once again, they were much smarter than me): When I read the paper, I start in the sports section because it highlights man's accomplishments and not man's failings. In this I agree. Sports are an outlet for my competitive streak. I love it when my hometown team wins (unless it's the Cubs) and I hate it when they lose (Again, unless it's the Cubs). Sports are a microcosm of life, and I LOVE the drama.

who the fuck wants to devote a signifigant amount of their leisure time to doing nothing but sitting in front of a TV, slackjawed and yelling at a bunch of overpaid assholes?

nothing wrong with playing sports.. watching them?? why??

4. Geez, you sound like my wife
:) I agree, playing sports is fun, but I love watching them as well. I can watch any two teams play hockey, even high school teams. Football is another sport that (to my wife's everlasting consternation) I LOVE to watch. I used to watch every single White Sox game on TV when I was younger. I watch considerably less baseball nowadays. I also like to watch golf (yes, golf) on TV, especially the major tournaments. I love it better when I can actually go and watch the pros play. I'm not a stats freak, but I just love the drama.
