How many of you still have in-laws/family in your house for the holidays? |
|
Are you ready to kick them out?
I laid down the law this year, after being burned by non-grateful wolverines too many times in the past. They may come for dinner on Christmas Day...and that's all.
Sounds harsh, but these people have the table manners of dung beetles.

1. We have the family swarm of locusts over for Thanksgiving, which is OK, because |
|
we have Thanksgiving from Wednesday evening until Saturday.
Christmas, we have friends and neighbors to visit. Can't not have a full house during the holidays, after all.

3. Yes, I did the swarm over Thanksgiving. That was enough. |
|
I'm the only cook in the family, my folks are dead, so they naturally assume I have nothing better to do than cook and clean for them for days upon days.
Glad I got them in and out this year, with relative ease.

4. It's different for us. Mrs R is in her glory when she's cooking for a crowd. If she didn't |
|
enjoy it so much, we'd certainly not have the crowds.
There have been a couple of years when she's wanted the holidays to be "just us," and when she wants that, that's what we do.

2. My mother-in-law is here... |
|
She is in the process of moving to Alaska from Texas and is waiting for her stuff to get up here so she can move into her new little senior citizen apartment. It'll probably be another couple of weeks...she's pretty easy though.

5. My parents are still here. They'd planned to leave tomorrow |
|
but my mom doesn't feel well so they will stay at least one more day. I love having them here (except for having to make lunch - I despise making lunch) so the longer they stay, the happier I am. Which is why I poisoned Mom's Christmas dinner.
Kidding, of course.

6. Only for about 4 hours |
|
my dad is afraid to fly and see us. The outlaws (spouse's parents) who I've vented about, live nearby, and they "expect" us to spend every freaking holiday with them (I showed them otherwise this past Thanksgiving). Fortunately it was brief- long enough for the spouse to bring them over for dinner, them to eat and then for him to drive them back.
I'd rather go hunting for rattlesnakes and cobras while barefoot rather than spend more than 4 hours with my spouse's parents.

7. I spent 4 days at my brother's place |
|
All of the festivities were at my sister's though. I'm a firm believer in the fish time frame. i.e. after 3 days, house guests, like fish, start to stink.
I made several dishes for various meals, washed dishes for most of the meals, and left (for my brother) a hundred dollar cheque. Does that make me a good house guest?
