What will make my lousy head cold better?
I've had it since Friday afternoon, so has hubby. Ruined our New Year's Eve celebration (our 21st wedding anniversary is today). And tomorrow it's back to work. Ugh.

I've taken vitamin C, loads of fluids and aspirin. Can't take cold stuff because I have high blood pressure.

I'm considering working out tomorrow at the gym, whether I feel like it or not. 3 days without a work out is rough...

1. Here's what I take, and I swear it works...
...at least for me. 2000mg of Vitamin C, 100mg of Zinc, and 2000mg of Green Tea Complex. I've been on the verge of a cold 3 times this year, take that before I go to sleep, and I'm right as rain.

3. I'm doing it on the Vitamin C. Should get more Zinc, it's good.
And I've beendrinking Green Tea. But the cold is here and now and I just want it gone.

I'll get some zinc tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation!

2. raw garlic works for me
unfortunately if you cannot take the day off this will not be the answer because people find the smell of garlic on another person as opposed to garlic on food quite offensive

i have tried both ways, andrew weil's suggestion of just eating a raw garlic clove and jeanne rose's suggestion of snorting liquified garlic -- rose's suggestion works best and fastest but as she says you see red lights light up behind your eyes while weil's suggestion works almost as well if more slowly without the pain

but you can't do this without plenty of time to "air out" as the smell of the garlic will come out of every pore

i think you should skip the work out, but yeah i'm guilty of pushing through the pain with a cold too but they say it gives you no health benefits to work out with a cold, but we americans don't know how to rest and conserve our strength when we're ill, it makes us twitchy, and mental health is a value too

i hope you wake up well tomorrow, the best thing about colds is they go away

4. And the raw garlic would certainly do its part to stop the spread...
...since I doubt many people would want to be near you! ;)

5. Can you use nasal spray?
A good 12 hour nasal spray will at least make breathing a lot easier.

6. I don't know. That would be a good idea tho. We're like two honking
geese, hubby and me, blowing our noses.

But, as he says, "It could be worse." We could have the flu.

7. Check with you pharmacist.
Make sure it is a 12 hour spray. The 4 hour ones are useless. And, don't use it for more that 3 or 4 days.

8. Airborne tablets.

They dissolve ( fizz) in water, like Alka-Seltzer.

Take every 3-4 hours as needed, they really help
in getting over a cold/ head cold.

11. I took that as a preventative on my way to Rome in November!
It worked great. I liked having the little "cocktail" before bedtime in my hotel.

I'll try it. I have some left. Thanks!

10. I can't recommend Mucinex enough.
I took the max, 2 every 12 hours, and it really helped me and all my co-workers who got sick.

12. Gatorade
Yes, empty calories, but I went through about 4 gallons of it a few weeks ago after being laid out for three days and it was my saving grace.

Feel better!:hi:

14. Nasal Saline Spray
It cleans out the sinuses and all that muck stuck in there. But it's pretty gross because it goes in the nose and usually out the mouth. But I've found that Saline Spray along with Vicks Nasal Spray helps keep the sinuses cleared out!

15. A warm-mist humidifier always helps me.
Especially if you put some Vicks VapoRub in the little repository that's built into most of them, and let the vapors fill them room. But even without the Vicks, a warm mist humidifer is wonderful for colds. Very soothing to your nasal passages and bronchial tubes.

16. Will the new Sudophed substitute aggravate your blood pressure?
If not use that. Otherwise, find some other way to facilitate drainage. Steam, hot shower, hot soup, fresh damp air, vaporrub. Try irrigating the sinuses with warm, slightly salty water.

18. Get a neti pot :)
It won't make it better all the way, but it helps a lot, and it also helps with prevention. I was totally grossed out by the thought, but after successfully warding off two sinus infections now by using it, I'm officially an advocate!

I hope you feel better soon!

22. That's interesting because I always feel better after a slug of OJ
when I have a cold. But I think that's the Vitamin C, which does help you feel better, so I guess I could just take it in pill form.

23. Ginger tea and steam
Boil water in a pan, remove from heat, then breathe the steam in with a towel over your head for up to 15 minutes. Do this every couple of hours.

The ginger tea is great with honey and lemon.

Hope you feel better!

27. Great idea...
I had a bowl several weeks ago, when I didn't feel like eating anything else. This place was so cheap...It only cost about $5 for this HUGE bowl of soup, and that was with chicken. They brought fresh herbs on the side...basil, parsley, hot peppers. It really was wonderful!
