3. I think that's what Tails liked about it... |
|
He was pretty attentive to several of the other kitty videos I sowed him. He didn't care for the ones with music in the background, though.

4. My kitten doesn't seem to care for music |
|
but my older cat, Maximouse, will jump up beside me on the piano stool whenever I play Handel, or Bach, or Telemann. Strange, huh?

5. I've had pets who love my music |
|
and others that run away from it.
One of my dogs would lie on our feet when my brother, a trumpeter, and I practiced, and he'd sing along.

6. Mrs. Ironflange had a similar cat, in a way |
|
A long time ago, when she had to practice hours a day, her kitty would spend most of the time curled up nearby, she loved the music. Except when Bach started. Only Bach. She would get up, cast a dirty look, and leave. When the music changed, Gipsy would be back. It was only Bach that did this, she would even sleep through stuff like Stravinsky and Lutoslawski, not to mention lots of scales, arpeggios, and chords. Mrs. Ironflange could do scales faster than anyone I've heard.

7. I wish I were Mrs. Ironflange! |

Oddly, I had this discussion with my piano teacher recently. I finished playing something and looked at her face for a reaction. She said, "You know how I know it's good? My cat didn't leave the room." It turns out that her cat likes everything but Beethoven! So I do believe cats have distinctive musical taste. On a side note, we once had a guinea pig who would purr to rock and roll. Nothing else made him purr.

8. She's very good, could have had a concert career |

She even spent a summer in Salzburg, at the Mozarteum. Didn't have the desire or the ego, though. She's happy now, teaching her little Grade 3's, teaching a bit of piano, and coaching our daughter, the singer.
We have three cats now, none of them care much about music. They'll come visit in the studio, but they don't hang around. We had a kitty, now gone, who used to like to sleep inside the piano, a grand. Someone would sit down to play, and it would go <thunk>. "OK, Charlotte, outta the piano!"
