Being able to 'hold my liquor' is beginning to kinda suck
I always put my limit, somewhat arbitrarily, as the capacity of a standard 7 oz tumbler

Well I've now drunk enough straight, 80 proof rum that I'm able to fill the glass to it's brim, down all of it in a single gulp, and get hardly a buzz at all, even on an empty stomach. Again, because I've set this as my limit, I'm not about to simply drink more. But only getting a mild numbing feeling, particularly after I shorted Corning on a massive upturn, is simply not at all the palliative I was seeking.

I also find myself listening to Bob Seger's 'Still the Same' and Gordon Lightfoot's 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.'

1. I understood all of it but this
"shorted Corning on a massive upturn"

All I know is when you start listening to Jimmy Buffet it's time for an intervention.

2. I bet Corning would go down at 19.32 but it kept going up

5. okay, I gotcha
just needed a tad more info, lol. I didn't know if 'massive upturn' was the 2007 version of 'the technicolor yawn' or something....

3. Holding your liquor that well not only reduces its palliative
effect, but it makes getting drunk a very expensive hobby! Maybe you should stick to water for a couple of weeks, eh?

4. Yeah, I've been kicking around that idea though
a couple weeks might be pushing it. But clearly abstaining for a bit is the obvious way of reducing my tolerance. Does just add to the suckiness of it all, though.

6. couple weeks off is better than the alternative
let me tell you. I went ahead and upped.

and then I upped.

and upped again. Don't even ask what it takes to get a buzz.

truth is, well, yeah, two weeks, don't know if I could do it, probably can't.

good luck!

8. Point taken
That's the whole idea of setting some kind of limit. I've got enough first hand experience watching those who just kept upping it, DTs and all, that I well know I don't want to go there.
