Paris: "City Of Light", NY: "City Of Smells"...
...so this morning's news should not have caused such a stir.

New York smells of freshly baked bagels and delicatessens and
pizza parlors. In December the vendors selling Christmas trees
fill the streets with the smell of pine, there are chestnuts
roasting on an open fire.

Springtime in New York is Central Park and Riverside Drive.
Summer is the salty surf of Coney Island and Brighton Beach.

My apartment building is a United Nations of cooking aromas at
mealtimes. Third floor is curry and other exotic Indian
spices. Fifth floor is knockwurst and saurkraut. Eighth floor
is roast beef and mashed potatoes.

Other smells are not so nice. So...what else is new? We
cope.
