Any sympathy for the rich fucks in Malibu?
None here. Maybe FEMA can help.

:sarcasm:

1. My dear liberaltrucker........
Actually, yes, I have sympathy.......

Even if they are rich, and I presume they are.......

They have most likely lost everything, and I hate to see anyone lose their home in a fire.....

:loveya:

3. My dear Peg
They have the $$ to recover. Folks like us in the same situation wouldn't.
These are people who had no sympathy for the victims of Katrina. Call me
intolerant, but, while I don't smile at another's grief, I have no sympathy
for someone who'd have none for me or you in a similar situation.

8. Seems to me that the odds of you knowing
whether these folks contributed to helping out Katrina victims are rather slim. To pre-judge based on looks, race, economic status, etc. is bloody well wrong. Step off the "victim" box and have some compassion.

12. Maybe so
All I know is that on AAR after Katrina, the only
wealthy person to charter flights to NOLA was a guy
from San Diego. Ah, well, maybe I'm TOO, uh liberal.

2. I've had this argument before...
a $20k house means more to its owners than a $2mil house to its owners. My two cents...

7. I don't understand that
A wealthy person who purchases a home, spends a lot of time and care renovating it, tending it, decorating it with family memories, personal items etc feels the same sense of loss as a person living in a 12x30 trailer. The difference is a rich person is more likely to be able to afford a new place to live while the poor one may end up sleeping in their ex brother in law's garage for 3 years.

But loss is loss and wealth doesn't change the pain of seeing a lifetime of blood sweat and tears go up in smoke.

6. NO ONE deserves to lose their home.
Regardless of how much money they have. Even if they can afford to replace it, think of the memories they may have lost.

Honestly, posts like this make me sick.

9. Frankly and honestly ...
I do believe I have less sympathy for "those" folks than I would have for others less monied. Sad but true, perhaps.

...O...

Shame on you.. just because these folks are wealthy, you think they deserve it??

You know, some wealthy people in this country actually earned it through hard work.

Not every rich guy is a hedge fund manager or CEO who was given a golden parachute.

We have to remember that's one of the great things about this country, there is an

opportunity to make it big no matter who you are or where you came from.

13. There was a home in Malibu...
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 01:50 AM by Whoa_Nelly
...on the cliffs, overlooking the sea. I stayed there once. I believed that if I looked hard enough and long enough, I would be able to see India. I knew it had to be out there, but the only thing I ever saw was a ship way out at sea.

There was a man who had a house just down the hill. He had glass walls to look out on the ocean, and a freezer built right into his kitchen counter where he always kept a good supply of the latest frozen confection, Eskimo Pie bars.

That was 1958.

I am sad all these homes have burned. Moneyed people or not, they have tangible memories that are now gone. I would like to believe that where I stayed is still there.

Remembered moments in life are precious. At least I get to keep mine.

Should they now be jealous of me?

14. I have some sympathy. Some.
I have more for those who not only lose everything but have few resources to rebuild.

15. I cleaned houses after fires for 10 years.
I'd go in and sort through the debris, figure out what could be saved, inventory everything else that couldn't be. The people that lost their homes are in for a devastating time.

:(

18. Left wing
doesn't mean hating a whole class of people you've never met.

That's for the other side. Good riddance.

20. If being left-wing means I have no compassion for those who lose their homes...
then I will *NEVER* be "left-wing."

Sorry, dude, but I can't help but feel sympathy for those who have lost their homes.

19. Got a list of their names?
If, say, the "Girls Gone Wild" fuck lived there and lost his home, I'd :woohoo: .

But there're probably some human beings there, too.
