Clearly none of you have taken medication for Osteoporosis or you wouldn't rag on Sally Fields |
|
Not trying to make an Olive Garden out of this, but even my mom is switching to once a month. This isn't a vitamin pill you pop and go about your way. Some of these pills require you to sit upright for 30-60minutes after taking, which can be a real nuisance to people on the go.

1. Yep, I was gonna point out the same thing |
|
No personal experience here, but doing medical transcription, with a heavy concentration in Rheumatology, etc, I've learned the same thing. It's not the same as popping a Tylenol and going about your business.

2. I want a pill that requires me to have sex for 30-60 minutes after taking. |
|
Oh wait. I think there is one already. I wonder when they will come up with a once-a-month dose of Viagra.

It's made by someone called Ghirardelli.

7. Wouldn't an Olive Garden made of pills and Sally Fields be a rather unstable building? |
|
I can't imagine it would pass the health codes and quite frankly all those Sally Fields in the walls would start to smell after a while.

Nobody is seriously ragging on Sally Field. ;-)
And this is coming from a woman who takes about 7 pills twice a day and two other pills that I have to take three times a day. Many of these pills have special instructions, some of them cannot be taken withing 2 hours of my other pills, etc., etc. Laughing at a celebrity commercial doesn't mean anyone is minimizing your condition.

I just posted in that thread. My mom takes the once-a-week one. She gets SO hungry while she's waiting for that hour to pass. It is also quite a nuisance when she has an appointment to get to.

14. My mother was about ready to ditch the pill but is looking into once-a-month |
|
She figures she can deal with it one time a month.
I couldn't not make a stink. Osteoporosis is a major health concern with all people but especially women

16. My mom's doctors don't seem to know about the once-a-month one. |
|
And she's not the kind of patient who would make a suggestion. So she goes through the weekly thing. I never realized what a pain that little pill is until I saw her go through the whole routine.
I'm glad you said something.

that would kill me to wait.
I'm confused though...does the person have to sit STILL for an hour or can one get up and move around?

17. It's best that you just sit upright - like reading a book |
|
Even bending over can be a challenge. It's mainly to mimimize damage to the Esophagus, so I'm guessing they really don't want you jumping around alot. Heartburn is a major problem with women who take this pill, but far less of a problem than having brittle bones

like going running or whatever? That does seem unfortunate. Yikes. On the other hand, I'm so glad there is treatment for this.

The whole purpose of sitting upright is to keep the acidic juices of the stomach (aggrevated by the medicine) from splashing into your esophagus

My mom's not very active on her best days. She usually just sits and reads the newspaper. I don't think you can bend over, though.
I've waited with her when she has been visiting and it's HARD!
