1. HAAAAANDS across America! HAAAAANDS across the USAAAAA! |
|
I think I was 11. There were a LOT of people out on the airport road, too. It seemed like there'd be no problem stretching all the way across the country.
The image I remember most from the TV coverage is a bunch of Navajos out in the middle of absolute nowhere (AKA New Mexico or Arizona :)) trying to stretch a line to infinity at both ends.

9. Hey, I live in Nevada. |
|
Once I was a Texan, but I've been a Nevadan for a long time now. If there's anyone on Earth qualified to make a determination of nowhereness, it's me. Personally, I prefer being nowhere.

6. Well... Howdy stranger! |
|
We have an event in common then.
I can honestly say there was a person every six to ten feet as far as I could see in either direction.
So, I wouldn't doubt that we actually made it all the way across!

At least we had some good pizza across from Beaver Creek on Route 40 afterwards.

8. LOL! There was a 'parking problem' over in my area... |
|
So they loaded everyone up in trucks and hauled them out to the line.
Someone had provided miles and miles of red and white rope. After it was all over I cut a couple of sections of it for keepsakes.

The whole stunt was a massive failure.
Well, maybe not for the advertisers.

I was a radio announcer at the time and, since the line didn't come through our area, we had a contest and took listeners to a couple of different locations. I went with a group of listeners to Chicago.

18. I did! I was down in the something or other zoo in Chicago - Lincoln Park? |
|
I can't remember what it's called. Beautiful zoo, though - and a beautiful day. And I was there with a beautiful woman almost twice my age at the time. Hubba hubba.

I remember it being somewhat disorganized, but a beautiful day and a lot of fun.
Is it Lincoln Park Zoo?

I couldn't remember the name. That was my one and only trip to Chicago. I remember the weather was great and it was a beautiful park.

I was in band at the time and we ALL did. I was on the courthouse square in my hometown. I can't believe I just admitted it publicly. *snort*
