Favorite snacks?
OK - having some unexpected company over tomorrow... and need some general light snack stuff to have around. Anyone have recipes for nice, quick stuff (more than cheez whiz on triscuits)? I'll have time to go to the store in the morning, but not a lot of prep time, and I need probably 2-3 different snacks on hand.

I'm brain dead tonight I'm so tired - would appreciate any suggestions you have!

Thanks!

1. Well...
I would go with a real assortment of cheeses (not cheez whiz) and crackers, hummus can also go with the crackers, tortilla chips and salsa and/or guacomole, assorted nuts, chex mix or the like. There are also some great frozen appetizer thingies that you can buy (at least around here) and heat up. They tend to be a bit expensive though. Fruit salad is always good too, but that not so much a finger-food thing.

8. its a classic/reliable choice...
IME, I usually go with a veggie tray, fruit tray, and a meat tray with cheese/crackers....but that line up does get boring, from time to time.

4. Cheese and Triscuits
Sometimes with summer sausage. Like to have grapes handy, too. Also, salsa and chips -- that's sometimes a meal for me.

5. Stuff some muchrooms.
Onions, garlic, and bread crumbs. My favorite is (if you're going to the store) buy bacon, waterchestnuts, vinergar, and brown sugar. And toothpicks. Soak the waterchestnuts in the vinigar for about 4 hours. Cut the bacon in half, horizotally. Roll the bacon in brown sugar(both sides)and wrap around each chestnut. secure with toothpicks. Bake at 225 degrees for one and a half hours.

15. I love bacon-wrapped water chestnuts, but I've never had them with brown sugar.
That sounds delicious!

I was deluged with phone calls this morning and am just checking this site - and running to the grocery store. Sounds like I'll be doing veggies, crackers/cheese / salsa / hummus / baguette kinds of things...

thanks! And those mushrooms and the waterchestnuts sounded terrific - I think I'll try those later for myself! My husband doesn't eat bacon, but I'll try it with turkey bacon or something similar ...
