writer's block

anybody ever have it?

I have now gone longer without writing anything of significance than I have gone since 1990.

(Partly by choice)

1. My dear leftofthedial!

All the time!

In fact, I seem to be blocked more often than not........

But when my muse kicks me, the words pour out of me in such profusion that it makes up for when she's silent!

And I really cannot produce anything of any quality without inspiration...

2. I write every day

or at least I did until the last few months

I find inspiration to be distracting and seductively superficial. To produce anything of quality, I have to self-flagellate like an Opus Dei monk, carve a quivering chunk out of my own living flesh by pure force of will and then mold it on the wheel like a throbbing lump of Dali-esque clay, all blood and live, red-hot screaming nerves. It's awful, but it sure feels good when I'm finished.

Most of my "writing" is songs--uptempo and positive, just the way Nashville likes 'em.

3. I've read that you should write every day.....

I don't usually..........Maybe I should!

So far, inspiration works for me.........

I have two stories in the Writer's forum........

They both involve the same characters..........

If you want, have a look....

But read "The Game" first.

And then read "Summer Squall."

4. I'm headed downstairs to the studio to "write" a bridge to a song
