Can someone explain GD's obsession with ascribing GLBT traits to conservatives? |
|
It always seems like a suspiciously dressed-up "the GOP is so gay! LOL!!11!" to me--just another snide way of implying some form of sexuality = bad. GWB, Ann Coulter, or whoever is an asshole, therefore he or she must be GLBT.
:eyes:
At least the mods tend to lock the really puerile threads. Thanks mods!

Gay= Bad= Insult.
So ofcourse straight people who are sociopaths and are causing the world to fall apart are clearly gay.
(its perfectly logical) :eyes:
and if you call people out on this weird logic they will say you are being oversensitive.

I should have put that the other way.
asshole = repressed = selfhating = must be involved in something they are secretly ashamed of because they don't have the courage to be true to themselves = gay.
Hum, now that I put it that way I see what you mean. Why gay? Why not anything ELSE? Aha.

21. Thanks for the useful comparison. |
|
I have also tried to use a different analogy, probably too subtle for the mind of the original offenders but I ask them to consider the ridiculousness of substituting a different non-political attribute such as, "and not only that, but they're probably adopted!" in the hope that such people would get a clue or at least have to scratch their heads in bewilderment on my account.
They usually either accuse someone who speaks up of being overly sensitive, needing to get a sense of humour or a life, or they pull out and play the hypocrisy card! even though there is no mention of or context for hypocrisy in their original statement.

30. See, I'm kinda on the same wavelength as you are. I think of the evidence of them |
|
being self-hating as how violently they oppose homosexuals and what they do and how they do it. I've NEVER heard such explicit details about gay sex as I've heard from gay-hating idiots. They talk about all these "terrible acts" that gay people supposedly do. Then I think about myself and wonder why the heck would they be so obsessed with gay sex? I don't know anything about the "gay agenda" and I don't think about it as often as these folks do. Hell, I don't think I've ever heard openly gay folks talk about gay sex as much as I've heard it from homophobes. The only time I'd get obsessed about something like that is if I really wanted it and was somehow kept away from it. Being conservative is all about denying yourself anything outside of the "norm" so...... a violently anti-gay conservative usually screams to me repressed homosexual and I feel sad for them. Life is too damn short and they just don't get that their world won't end if they were gay.
I dunno, I'm just a dumb straight boy.

|
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 09:19 AM by terrya
They have less than enlightened (to put it mildly) attitudes about gay and lesbian people and homosexuality in particular. So, to hurl the ultimate insult at Republicans, it's always convenient to play the homo card. Like, for instance, that ridiculous stupid piece of shite thread I saw on GD suggesting that Bush is bisexual. Not one goddamned shred of real evidence to back that up.
It gets really bad at times...Mark Foley, Jeff Gannon. Just purile, nasty bigoted shit.
Fortuately, there are people here who are tired of homophobia like that and are fighting back. Because, when you try, repeatedly, to educate people, and they refuse to even try to understand about us, then fighting back seems to be the only option around here.
And I do thank the mods also for locking the really cretinous stuff.

Calling people gay, fat, a transsexual or retarded is all ok. I personally hate the word bitch. But don't tell someone in GD that. They will fly off the handle then. And heaven forbid someone make a racist remark and have it pointed out. Instead of learning from their mistake like an adult, they just jump to the defensive and blame anyone who questions them.
It's major bullshit.

35. There is no crime like being a gender traitor... |
|
:sarcasm:
Men are supposed to have big, powerful balls, yet be sensitive, but in a MANLY, hairy way. Women are supposed to follow, rather than lead, but every other night, Mother can express a heated opinion (limited to 2 minutes, please) while sitting at the dinner table. Our of earshot of the public. With said opinion preferably one that Father agrees with.
If you fall outside of this simplistic rubric and are a man that cries at the sight of something personally moving, or a woman that screams at the top of your lungs at the first provocation of anger, well then, you just ain't being what your supposed to be.
So, Ann Coulter is Mann Coulter because she is loud. And tall. And severe. And we don't quite like this qualities in our little ladies. We like 'em short, And plush. With a minimal amount of outburst. And a fastidiously dressed GOP male is clearly a F-A-G-G-O-T, 'cuz no good, God fearin' conservative man could really ever like a good suit and a great pair of shoes.
:eyes:
I have absolutely no tolerance for rigidly prescribed gender rules and roles, but I am fairly in the minority there. :)

About the gay thing-I don't mean that in an accusatory way I really do think that what became the elite of the elite in the think tanks recruited gays at Harvard (mostly) and Yale-some other Ivy League type schools- back in the late 60's and early 70's. These were social darwinists who held tightly the belief that these were clearly superiorly bred gene pools that had distinguished themselves from the pack of immigrants of the early part of the century. They needed capable bodies and the fact that these men were gay meant that they would forever be loyal as their ultimate fear of being outed could be held over their heads. The rest, as they say, is just wearing a suit and hanging the diploma.
Cheney Bolton Roberts Alito Norquist Drier (not Harvard) etc.
This is my one and only conspiracy theory...that and the one about how they killed Pat Tillman before he could get back to the States and hand Kerry an unfixable landslide.

Whilst the GOP does have strong elements of homoeroticism this does not mean 'gay'. I agree that the manner in which some GDers are attributing sexuality to Repubs they don't like does seem very homophobic as it is used as a negative.

But when one sees the same tripe again and again; it is obvious there is a pattern. (I mean in GD re the OP.)
And actually I was just making the point (in that particular argument) that things have improved in the years since I came out. And I still think they have.
We're not on opposite sides Lioness. I can assure you of that..:hi:
Even in this most gay of towns where I live, believe me, there is homophobia - alive and well (or rather, not well but SICK). Sad, but it's true.
