What word or words cause instant eye glaze for you? |

Followed by a quick bailout of whatever reading material it is?
Me: 'epistemological' :boring:

4. The instant I hear or read anything about 'growing' a company |
|
Or something similar, my eyes glaze over, my mind goes numb and I refuse to read or listen to another word because I know it'll be laden with every other corporate buzzword the writer couldfind and make no sense whatsoever.

24. I hate that phrase, it sounds so grade school |
|
Did it start in the business world. Suddenly economics in the 1990s was all about 'growing' the economy as economic growth became a verb. It just sounds like what a five year old would say 'I wanna grow my legos' instead of 'I want more legos.'

I have a policy: if a book mentions a shoe by brand name (Jimmy Choo, Manolos, etc.) I stop reading right then and there. Good writing does not rely on brand names. Bad "chick lit" and other genres of crappy writing do. I enjoyed Candace Bushnall's "Sex & the City" columns in the NY Observer, but that was the last time I read anything with the word "Manolos" in it.
Sorry Jennifer Weiner. Sorry Lauren Weisberger. I'm sure you're good writers, but no brand names for me.

(Too show you my level of brand awareness, I had no idea what 'Manolo Blahniks' meant until I read your post.)

For me, any finance related word is enough for me. Even APR is too complicated.
