Poll question: What should I do for my 50th birthday?
In a little over a month, I turn 50. I'm taking it pretty hard--somehow I never thought it would ever happen (and when did my children become adults?) Anyhow, give me some ideas how to celebrate this unfortunate event.

1. Get a Chinchilla
Everyone over 50 needs a Chinchilla

6. The cats would eat the chinchilla
Small rodentlike critters just aren't likely to survive long in a household with six cats. Chincillas are cute though.

2. I decided to get a tattoo
when I turned 50. I had never wanted a tattoo, thought they were icky on females and it was the last thing I thought I'd ever do. I brought the topic up with my fiance and he said go for it...so I did.

A year and a half later I still like it. It reminds me I'm not really old because old is a state of mind.

7. i have been toying with this
i hit the big 50 soon myself. i am not taking it that well, either. i already know my cholesterol it too high, although the 401k is not too bad. the gym, well, i was pretty good about that for a while, but got sick. i will be getting back to that soon. i liked it, mostly, but you really need a workout partner, imo.
but a tatoo, i am thinking i will get a peace sign. don't know where yet. i am reliably informed that most of the places i am thinking about putting it are very painful, and the more "padded" areas i am too old to flap around in public (even the semi-public of a tatoo parlor). maybe my shoulder, tho.
what kind of tatoo are you thinking about, and where?

8. I'd worry about the tattoo wrinkling
I mean, it took about 30 minutes to get from the age of 30 to 50. Before I know it, I'll be70 and have wrinkled tattoos.

12. My tattoo is on my ankle
and I don't think I'm going to get wrinkly ankles. I'm already retired so I spend alot of my time in jeans so my tattoo is easily covered.

It's about 2.5 inches long and has a rose and a heart on it with several leaves. The colors are still great after 1.5 years and that was something I was worried about.

When I do dress, I usually wear slacks of some sort and I can always wear trouser socks in order to keep it hidden if I need to.

I have absolutely no regrets.

14. I already have it
and it's on my ankle. Even though that is a relatively bony area the tattoo didn't hurt all that much. I've experienced worse pain. Matter of fact, after awhile I kind of enjoyed the pain which was weird for me since I'm a big woos.

4. good fares to Frankfurt?
Take me, I won't whine when I lose my cell signal, promise. My "Germanness" levels are getting low, need to go back and recharge.

10. First, the tropical isle!
And screw the cell phone!

Then probably come back and firm up the ancient bod.

(this from someone who is turning 52 as we speak)
