Help! If I have adobe 7.0 on my pc. If I remove it, what will happen to all the PDF files that
currently are labled "pdf adobe"? Will I lose them. Is adobe 7.0 reader the same as acrobat?

I am trying to manage my PDFS and maybe even turn them all into MSWORD docs if I can.

I am having a hard time using the search/find function in adobe 7.0. It never finds any of the words I know definitely exist in the document.

Any advice on how to deal with pdfs would be greatly appreciated. I will forever grateful.

1. The pdf files will still be there, you will need to download adobe reader
which is the same as what used to be called acrobat reader.

3. May I suggest an alternative to Adobe Reader?
If you want is a Program that will allow you to view, search and reconfigure .pdf documents I would strongly suggest moving away entirely from Adobe, as I have found their Reader program too slow-loading and cumbersome to use. I switched a while back to Foxit Reader, which loads in a flash and performs all the basic functions more quickly than Adobe Reader ever did. The Search function works perfectly and it allows you to save open .pdf files as Text files (.txt extension) which can be opened with MS Word and saved from there as .docs. It's also a very small download (1.5MB compared to 20.9MB for Adobe Reader).

And, of course, it's free, with absolutely no restrictions on it's use.

You can read more / download from http://www.download.com/Foxit-PDF-Reader/3000-2079_4-10313206.html
or check their Home Page at http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Hope this helps.

5. Yeah. Nice Program. I removed adobe acrobat. But I guess the search function only works
if I buy it -- not on the free version, right? Anyway. Thanks again.

6. Search should work OK
I have the free Version 2.0 of Foxit reader and the search works fine. I click on the "Binoculars" search Icon near the top of the screen (or alternatively click Edit / Find Text), enter the text I want and it finds it no problem.

I think that's the same version you downloaded so it should work the same.

7. I think I am trying to search a on old book that's been converted to pdf in a graphic not text
format. Thats all I can figure. I found the pdf via googlebooks --- and when I view the book/pdf online via the google site, the search function (google's) works fine. I can use the foxit snapshot function to cut paragraphs graphically and paste them in a msword file -- where I cannot edit them. I guess my solution is to do my searches online in google and annotate my pdf files. what a pain in the ass! Nevertheless, I am pretty thrilled with foxit -- I think I dl's a trial version of foxit pro. Thanks again.
