Oh. My. God. One of the most tasteless things I've ever seen.
The 5th Anniversary World Trade Center Commemorative Proof

http://www.wtcproof.com/

The World Trade Center is cast in white gold (against a yellow gold coin) and can "rise up like hope from the ashes" (an actual quote from the TV commercial).

The website even has the nerve to say "Do Your Part!" because $5 of the proceed go to 9/11 charities and memorials. Please, I beg you, if you want to donate $5 to 9/11 charities and memorials, just donate the $5. Don't let others profit in such a crass and commercial way from that tragedy.

:grr:

5. "A breathtaking standing sculpture of the twin towers."
"The gleaming twin towers actually rise up, like hope, from Ground Zero..." Made of gold and silver actually recovered from the vaults below Ground Zero? Jesus God.

For a limited time only, you can also get the "I Am With You" puzzle, a $19.99 value, absolutely free!

14. Yeah. when Springsteen sang, "Rise up,"...
...he wasn't talking about the towers themselves.

7. It's not even $5 per proof - it's $5 per order!
That means if someone buys the maximum 5 per order, they're paying $149.75 plus undoubtedly outrageous shipping, and $5 will be donated.
Yay.

The whole thing disgusts me.

This wording bothered me also:

In honor of the tragedy that rocked the world, we’re proud to present the 5th Anniversary World Trade Center Commemorative Proof.

In honor of the tragedy?

It is one of the cheesiest ads I have ever seen. My kids were speculating as to whether their father had ordered his yet.

19. I know what honor means...
But they said they wanted to honor the tragedy itself. Perhaps they meant to say they wanted to honor the victims.

15. Bad design, inappropriate vehicle. The whole pop-up concept is
tacky. I saw the ad weeks ago and thought that no-one would take it seriously. A pop-up of the world towers? Silver recovered from the ruins? Who thinks this up. Do you get to double your order if you call right now? The tastelessness of these "buy now" TV ads is remarkable. I hope they do not sell enough to pay for the tooling of this atrocity.

16. I will display mine proudly ...
on the shelf between the soap "pope on a rope" commemorating John Paul's visit, and the six-pack of "Billy Beer" commemorating the esteemed brother of a president.

And I'm scouring eBay for fragments of the Afghan Taliban's demolition work, "Blown-up Buddhas".

I'm just amazed that the ad appears to be serious. And some well-meaning souls will buy it.
