Do you enjoy Ethiopian cuisine?
Me - I love any food you get to eat with your hands. My wife just couldn't get into the spongey injera bread.

3. Yes, but dammit; the nearest restaurant is in Atlanta
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 11:33 AM by undisclosedlocation
I could cook it myself, but though I could make the wats ok, I could never find an injera recipe that worked. (Also, the restaurant in Atlanta tends to burn frankincense, so the last time we went there we couldn't actually stand to eat there. Maybe this is just to run off ex-Catholics, I don't know.:))

8. I have a recipe for injera bread at home
I'll dig it up and send it to you if you want to try one more.

To the OP, obviously, that would be a yes although I'm not as familiar with it as I'd like to be. :)

9. I love it....
I like the places that serve the big communal platter in the middle of the table with the food all piled on injera and a basket of injera on the side for scooping. The piece on the bottom soaks up all the flavors and is a great end to the meal.

11. I LOVE it!
We're lucky to have quite a few great Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants here. I need to take Neil; he's never eaten it (except for the bastardized stuff I've cooked) - we keep talking about it. :hi:

And I adore injera. I always keep some teff on hand in the pantry. :9

18. Best line from a hip hop song:
By the RZA

"Ya gettin stripped from ya garments, boy run the jewels!
While the meth got me open like fallopian tubes
I bring the death to a snake when he least expect
Ain't a damn thing changed boy, Protect Ya Neck!"

17. I love it.
I'm lucky enough to live in West Philly, where we have several. I love the injira! Although you have to be really careful, because that stuff expands in your stomach and you can get really uncomfortably full after you stop eating.

19. Yes but I've never been served injera that way.
I've had the injera flat on a wide plate or platter with dollops of the other food positioned around on it. I've never had an Ethopian dish that I didn't like. Tej is pretty good too.

20. Doro Wot!!!!!! I love some Ethiopian food.
I love the injera, too, like a sourdough pancake. I've had it rolled up like this, and also on the bottom of a major combo platter.

We had a friend that ran a restaurant and would make special stuff for us.

Very interesting spices, not just hot spices.

28. LOVE it
I spent an entire summer eating authentic Ethiopian food served up by the workmen on the archaeoligical project I was working on in Israel. They were Ethiopian jews who had been airlifted out by the israelis in the 1980s.

I have yet to find food as good as that.

30. It's great stuff.
I like the restaurants that put the bread in a big basket/bowl in the center with the rest of the dishes arranged around it. Everyone dives in and it's a real communal thing. Great for breaking the ice.

There's a local restaurant, the Blue Nile, that has wonderful Ethiopian food, including some interesting cardamom-flavored cookies.

I had access to fantastic Ethiopian restaurants when I lived in metro-NYC. I love where I am now, but Ethiopian cuisine is nowhere to be found. Good heavens I think you've started me Jonesing! I could eat myself silly if I had some around.

34. I used to love to eat at "The Red Sea" in Washington, DC.
I was doing an internship in DC and a bunch of my college friends came down for a college radio convention. I took them to the Red Sea for Ethiopian and they all absolutely loved it.

To this day, anyone who was at that dinner mentions it to me.

Good stuff!

36. You are right -- Adams Morgan.
I haven't eaten there since 1985, so I'm not sure. I seem to remember one of my friends telling me that it was gone. What a shame if it is...great restaurant!
