7. yes- I lived in Japan
for awhile-- Kyoto.

Ramen is yummy, but the places always had a kind of stink-- from rendering the beef/fat to nmake the broth, I think.

The sound of slurping is LOUD, normal technique for ramen-eating.

20. There are authentic Japanese ramen shops all over the place here
Of course, this is Japan, where various localities have their own brand of ramen-- the most famous being Sapporo, Hakata (Fukuoka), and Kitakata (Fukushima).

26. No, but I've been looking for some good places
I've been fascinated by the dish/concept ever since watching Tampopo a couple of years ago. But I've never found a place in the US that serves something like what they're eating in the movie (and it's translated simply as "noodles" in the subtitles.) Every time I get "noodles" from an Asian place, they're never like that.

However, those pictures look like stills from the film. I'm going to have to try them.

Where's Minca Ramen at?

Didja know that Goro's milk truck sidekick--the skinny, fashiony Gun with hairdresser and stylist friends--was played by Ken Watanabe from "The Last Samurai" and "Letters From Iwo Jima"?

36. Why is ramen served in tractor hubcaps?
I enjoy ramen as much as the next guy, but the portions are so enormous at ramen shops that I can never finish a bowl.
