saw a porcupine sunday.....got some photos of it |
coming back from sarapiqui sunday night i saw a porcupine in the road. it was very dark outside and my little digital snapshot camera was having problems focusing in on the little guy. here are the 2 shots that aren't too bad: http://i55.photobucket.com.nyud.net:8090/albums/g138/GatoMoteado/porcupine01.jpghttp://i55.photobucket.com.nyud.net:8090/albums/g138/GatoMoteado/porcupine02.jpg

2. yeah, it took me a while to figure out what he was...... |
it was so dark i couldn't figure out what he was at first. he had a pink pig nose and a nearly hairless tail and all of his quills were small and thin. and he was small, about the size of a possum. i got right up to him, though....close enough to pick him up.

I've never seen a black one before.

12. yeah, drive around at night through a tropical rain forest or a... |
...temperate rain forest and you'll see all kinds of cool stuff. we saw a lot of interesting frogs crossing the road and we also saw a fer-de-lance, the most feared snake in costa rica. i walked right up to it and took a few photos but, again, the camera was having problems focusing at night so nothing turned out too well.

It looks like it has been snowed on with the white quills, though I know that is not possible.

14. cool....glad you like them |
they aren't my best photos, but it was the best i could do at the time.
i've got a rainforest property in sarapiqui (on the carribean slope near the nicaragua border) and i'm heading back there this weekend to look for vipers and other snakes to photograph. i'm sure i'll see all sorts of wildlife while i'm there...it's an area rich in biodiversity. if i get any good shots, i'll post them.
