I just got a phone call from a collection agency. The folks I had been helping are about to get their car repossessed 'again', and the agency had my number because I had been paying the bill for them.
I can't get them on the phone and the agency needs an answer by 2PM today.
Shit. How do I get myself into these situations? I really don't feel like paying their bills again. Shit. Shit. Shit.

2. I don't know what you'll decide to do |
|
I don't know what you'll decide to do, but I know collection agencies will bother just about anyone to get a bill paid. if you no longer want to be involved, you must make it clear to them they are not to call you anymore. One agency called me about a distant family member's bill. They then called several other family members, all different last names. I asked them how they attached this family member to me since my last name changed nearly 15 years ago, but they wouldn't answer. I don't know how they connected us, but I told them that 1. my family member probably wouldn't appreciate their privacy being violated and 2. It has nothing to do with me and that they are not to call me again.
I have to say, you are a good hearted person, there's not too many people like you around.

3. the best part is when they call your neighbors and co-workers |
|
I'm the neighbor who got called and told my neighbor owed them $200 and they could really use my help if I could talk to the neighbor and convince them to pay it. I basically just laughed into the phone and hung up in their mid sentence.

4. You should've reported that |
|
That tactic is now illegal and the collection agency could be fined or prosecuted for doing it. What they did constitutes harrassment.

5. Yes-- they aren't allowed to disclose why they're calling or name the debt amount . |
|
They can call neighbors to confirm that so and so lives next door, last I checked. They can not divulge information about the debt.

7. Please don't let your good deeds turn into a punishment. |
|
There have to be limits, without guilt. Once you reach those limits, walk away without any regrets. You do what you can and no more.
I found out that even very good friends will keep using milking, not because they want to, but just because they will. You can become an escape value that they expect, depend upon, or even take for granted. :(

8. When I didn't know about it, I didn't feel bad. |
|
But right now, I feel bad.
One of my best friends and I were helping them pay their bills, and she got fed up with it. I kind of agree with her, frankly, because it has been over 2 years.
Time to shit or get off the pot, I guess.
Still, I wish I hadn't answered the phone. :(
