7. I was working at Starbucks. |
|
We flirted for months but neither of us could a word to each other. Then, one night, he came by with some friends who forced him to talk to me. We immediately asked each other out on a date and exchanged phone numbers. After he left, I unfolded the piece of paper he gave me and it had MY phone number on it. He came back about a half hour later, out of breath. He didn't realize what happened until he got home.

I was also acting and a bartender at the time. We went to my bar for our first date. When he found out that I worked there and was also an actor his response was: "I always told myself I'd never date an actor or a bartender." Ten years later...
I've told that story so many times that now when people ask I just tell them we met at a gloryhole.

he thinks I'm chatting with all these people to 'hook up with'
He's not very social....so it may be better if I visit by myself....He probably wouldn't even talk to you...He's so shy around people he does not know....I think maybe it's his accent...
But when we're together he never shuts up! He talks so much. I guess it's just all about his comfort level.

hasn't really ever read it unless I force him to read something or look at a pic.
But he thinks it's bizarre for someone to spend so many hours on a website chat room. He thinks it's just a big "hook up place"
I tell him that it's not but he's one stubborn and possessive Puerto Rican! :P :)

25. I met him at Gilleys at the Frontier in Las Vegas |
|
He was in town for his mom's wedding and I was hanging out at Gilleys. There is a diverse crowd there. The majority of 'cowboys' go there but all other types go there too. We started a long distance romance after that and he moved out to Vegas 6 months later. That was four years ago.

37. I was recruited to blog/write for a newspaper and web site he started. |
|
We were both married to other people at the time -- and he was not the one who recruited me (his editor was), nor was I the original choice for the position (a friend of mine was; he couldn't do it and referred the newspaper to me).
The newspaper ran out of funding, but I kept blogging; eventually, we ended up corresponding and realized we had a lot in common -- including splits with our respective spouses. We got together (ostensibly for an evening of brainstorming for the Web site), and haven't gone a day without speaking to each other since. We've lived in the same city since May 2005, and in the same apartment since April 2006.

41. Funny story, actually |
|
I had dated this girl off an on all through high school. I went off to the Air Force after high school, so our relationship kind of cooled. We had made plans to hangout together with her friend from college, who had been with a guy for about three years. She gave me her friend's AIM username, and we chatted there for a bit, until we met in person in secret a week before we all got together...
In May, we'll have been married for four years, and together around 7 years. :D

Ya ya, love boat. ;)
I was with 1 of my friends, she was 3 of hers. We ended up on the same dinner table. We kept running into each other out on the islands too, it was weird. Even when my friends and I met some females and shared a cab to the beach for a party, a huge beach, we walked up with these girls, and sure enough, there was my future wife sitting on a blanket. We said goodbye to the women we just met.
This was 1992. Arg, getting old. :)

I met him at a club in Boston... I think it was called "Zanzibars". I went there with my sister, after work and we were both tired and disheveled. She took off to dance and I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning around I saw three guys smiling at me. Long story short, I dated all three, one by one. The last one I dated was the husband. I still maintain I chose the best of the three, even if it hasn't worked out. :P

65. My husband and I met when he was on a pizza delivery |
|
to my job. My co-worker had ordered food and he delivered it. I worked downtown in a locked building, so there were tv monitors at the front and back doors. When I saw him on the monitor I told my co-worker to tell him that she forgot her money upstairs and to bring him up. He came up and put the food down, and my best friend who worked with him, came to the back door. I told him not to leave and then I got very busy at work and couldn't talk to him. The best we got was each other's names. My friend came up and talked to him and then he left. A few weeks later, my friend and I were at a restaurant and were being harassed by some unsavory guys. My friend called my husband to come and rescue us. He came and got us, took us out to his parents' house out in the country, and we sat in the mesquite bushes talking til 5am. A few months later we were inseparable, moved in together, and married 2 years after. We've been together 9 years this year and married 7.

68. Well, I really don't have an SO |
|
I met the current MrsRetro in line at a club. I was meeting a date there, and she was in town for a rock concert with 2 friends. We began talking in line and when my date didn't show up, I found her and her 2 friends at a table by the DJ booth and joined them. We talked all night, exchanged numbers, and then talked on the phone for a week before she drove back into town for our first date which lasted the weekend. We were engaged a few months later, moved in together after that, lived togrther for a year, and have been married 10 years now...
We have been separated now for a year, but live in the same house again as I moved back in a few weeks ago for financial reasons.
At least the kids are happy now.

115. That's No Doubt At Least |
|
a part of my overall problems in my marriage
you build a house on sand, and when the rains come, it washes away, and then you camp out on the beach for years pretending there's a house.
I've been spanked by reality enough, but it never hurts to remind me that 13th stepping is what it was. I was told that but I ignored it. Imagine that. We moved in together 3 weeks later. Healthy relationships 101. I'm not planning to make that mistake in my life again AZ.

In an office on the hill. She was working days as a receptionist and a night as a dancer. Ran into her again a few nights later at her other job, right before I moved to Atlanta. Coincidentally, she moved to Atlanta about six weeks later and we ran into each other again. There followed a decade of misadventures, crossed wires, all that ... we finally got things straightened out in 2000.
We still clash. We still can't stay out of each other's shorts. What's a guy to do?

He was a horrible neighbor. He played guitar by my bedroom window, worked on his car at five on Sunday morning, called all the neighborhood cats to feed them all hours of the day and night. Finally I went over to complain about the noise. After a heated (putting it nicely) argument we started talking, agreed to disagree, and have been together for the last nine years . He recently admitted that at the time he was running out of ideas to get my attention.

1994. Been shacked up ever since. A good place for atheists/agnostics/religious misfits to hang out and go trolling.
Funny note:I had been previously married at that same church in 1984, but was divorced. That hubby was an atheist, but it didn't work out. We had other problems.

There are two people I'm kinda involved with long distance right now. One I met on DU in a thread I posted on the day the supreme court struck down the Texas sodomy law. *snort* I guess we technically "met" at the bottom of the escalator at the Raleigh airport.
The other I met through the local poly community. We talked online. Then met for our first date at a really good pancake place. He got a job offer in Florida and I miss him a lot. :(

I was trying to get home to Dallas from recurrent training, she was trying to get home to Salt Lake from visiting her sister. Back tehn, employees had to dress up to travel, so we were all pretty easy to spot. Anyway, the service in the bar was so bad we moved to the same table to get someone to take our drink orders. Six months later (after talking on the phone maybe once a month) we met again, and after another six months of seeing each other only occasionally, we actually started dating. What can I say? We were slow starters.

I was in one of those scholarship pageants - Junior Miss - and was visiting my aunt & uncle who owned a small business & were giving me a sponsorship check. He was their next door neighbor, who happened to drop in for a few minutes. He says it took him 5 tries to actually complete his first telephone call to ask me out.
We will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in April.

He was my first love.
We "broke up" and lost touch when we were 17, after I'd moved away. He got married, had kids, got divorced. I got married, had a kid, got divorced... and 17 years later we met again...
and fell right back in love.
It's magical. :)

Yep, I'm one of THOSE guys. I talked him into breaking up with her to take a shot at another girl he was interested in (but who I knew he didn't have a bats chance of scoring). They broke up, I asked her out, and he was PISSED when he figured it all out later. It was sporadic at first, and had a two year break at one point, but almost 15 years later we're happily married.
I haven't spoken to the friend in 14 years.
