1. I just let it go
I know too many immigrants. I would be afraid they would find me condescending and insulting. Besides, I am more interested in content and intentions than pronunciation.

2. The only person that I would correct is my mom.
She asked me to. I would prefer not to.

3. I grab the nearest blunt object
and strike them with it. I find negative reinforcement works under those circumstances.

4. I only correct persons in very rare circumstances, usually when
the word they are mispronouncing is something that could be interpreted in a completely different way. Otherwise, I don't.

5. Just had a conversation with a friend of mine about this
regarding my own and her embarrassing mistakes. She said, "It's bad enough I said it wrong ONCE! If you know I said it wrong, tell me so I don't do it again!"

8. I remember when Jon Stewart got called out by his guest
on his mispronunciation of sanguine. He's always mispronouncing something but he's funny when he does it.

9. Other...I punch them in the face, knock them to the ground...
and while they're lying there bleeding, I scream the correct way to pronounce the word at them while kicking them over and over...

i lose so many friends that way.

10. The only person I correct is my husband and that is because
English is not his first language. Despite having lived here for years, sometimes pronunciation on certain words in English stump him. He asked me to correct him if he makes a mistake so, I do.

11. I'm all about the avoidance
I don't like conflict, and will do whatever it takes to avoid having to deal with such an awkward situation, so I'd definitely just try to think of a different word to substitute. Perhaps if the person was a close family member or friend I'd politely correct them, probably in such a way as, "I always thought that word was pronounced..."- even if I know for sure, and don't just think, the word is pronounced that way!

12. I calmly say "It's CaRIBbean, not CaribBEEan, you dumbfuck! God what an idiot!" & roll my eyes.
Strangely enough, some people still don't pick up on their error.

14. You do know that both pronunciations are correct, don't you?
And that the one that bothers you is always listed as the first/preferential pronunciation?

13. the reason i ask this is because I've seen Regis do this sometimes
he will pronounce a word like a guest says it, correct or not.

i'm surprised that no one checked that option.

16. I had someone talk to me about a...
..."boo-FAH-lo" once. Had no idea what she meant. She wasn't a native English speaker, though. When my light finally came on and I burst out with, "Oh, you mean BUFFalo!" I think we both felt a little silly.

18. I bring up the word again
in conversation and fake-stumble on it and say "How did you say it? Dim-in-u-ishun? I always thought it was dim-u-ni-shun. I need to look that up."
