I have found the greatest litter box EVER!!!

I hate cleaning out the cat litter box and decide to see if I could find something that would help lesson the burden of such a disgusting chore. I knew I wasn't going to get one of those electric ones just because I've read so many bad things about them and twice was in line at the pet store behind people who were returning them.

This box is amazing. When you want to clean it out you roll it over slowly so all the sand goes into the trap area and all the stuff to be removed has rolled into the roof of the container. Then you roll it back. The clumpy litter falls into a tray and all the usable litter goes back into the pan. Pull out the trap, dump it into a bag and throw away (dumpster out back where I park)

Oh sure, I'm still gonna have to replace the litter on a regular basis but at least cleaning it out daily won't be disgusting.

1. One of my cats made a litterbox....
...out of one of my slippers last night while I was in the shower although I don't know which one. Pissed perfectly in the middle of the hole without getting one drop on the floor.
It's so nice to get out of a relaxing shower, dry off, then put your foot into a cold, wet, pissy slipper

3. Watch it now....
Mrs. DTW thought it was funny last night too and she got tickled for five minutes. The #1 rule in the DTW house is....

1. "If you laugh at DTW, DTW WILL give you a reason to be laughing"

6. Thanks.
Sent link to our daughter.
She had the electric-automatic kind but the cat peed on the mechanism so much it quit working.
This looks like the answer.

8. I will say this much - it's not big enough if the cat is mongo-sized
Abbott is 14lbs and he just fits in there but even with his old litter box he'd back in his butt while his head stayed out of the box.

I hope it works. It took a few times until I perfected the roll but this morning it took me a minute to clean it out

7. Thanks for the info and link!
With 7 cats, 6 litter boxes and at least 2 cats who are completely psychotic about the state of the litter box (they'll piddle all over the landscape if they're not happy about it), I definitely need to get one and try it. :hi:

10. I have to ask a delicate question
I have a 14 year old cat who's, well, rather large. He's at least 15 pounds. Will he have trouble manuevering in this box? He backs up into a corner...

I would be thrilled to have a box I didn't have to manually scoop since I have very bad asthma.

14. Abbott is 14.5lbs and uses it but anything bigger might be pushing it

I was originally looking for this box - which has a sifter in it. Perhaps this might be big enough!

15. I've had one of those
the holes in the sifter get clogged and I spent a large amount of time poking the clumped litter through. :(

I have had luck with the sifting litter liners, but Gracie shreds the plastic with her claws. (I can't trim them, she's a pistol)

However, I don't know who sells them. Petco has just the normal sized one

11. I tried that thing. My cat wouldn't fit through the hole
comfortably, and when he did get in, his ass would hang out. Great idea, need bigger entrance.

13. Abbott just fits into it but he never went completely into the box
He has a habit of just backing in his butt and letting it rip. When finished he'd poke in his face and bury it.

16. Hmm. I may need to look into this

The electric ones do suck. Got rid of ours a long time ago. Instead of scooping clumps of litter you end up manually cleaning a shit rake everytime Mittens decides to drop a soft serve into the litter box. That's way more gross.

They used to have ones that hooked up to a water line with some sort of special crystals or something like that. I don't see those any more. They were like $250 or something. They must've sucked too because the pet stores don't seem to carry them anymore.

19. UPDATE for those who have large cats or multi-cats

There is a larger size version of this box geared towards our pleasantly plump felines. I found it on the manufacterers's page (but they don't sell product there) and then googled and found it on Amazon.

And if you read the reviews on Amazon - it got 4/5 stars and plenty of rave reviews

24. yes to that one
We've got three and one's quite tubby, I'm gonna look for this at Petco.

I tried making the cats a bathroom- I took the lid off their box and used some shower curtain to make them a room under the laundryroom table and I set the litter under there, it's precious :D I just knew they'd appreciate it, but something about the lid being gone confuses one of them and now she's using every rug in the basement no matter how clean their box is. So I have to go back to something with a lid.

23. Lynne also sent me a link to a box with a sifter tray insert
From personal experience, the litter will clog the holes in the tray and must be poked through to open the holes.

My big boy leaves clumps in the box the size of baseballs. (pees like a horse...) and sometimes the litter can't clump fast enough. (TMI? sorry...)

:)

25. Did you buy it and know it works or are you speculating that it will?
This uses the same grate system that the electric ones use, and I don't see why it's just going to be any different - other than it'll be raining shit on the little critters when a wet one gets stuck on the grate.

26. I've used it and it works
The difference is there are no mechanical parts in there that can break and no loud noise that can scare the cat away. You just tip it over (and I do it 1-2 times a day) and it'll sift out the cat waste.
