10 years for receiving oral sex? |
|
17 year old honor student and football player receives oral from a 15 year old at a party and gets sentenced to a mandatory minimum ten years. The law has since been changed but it looks like he will have to serve out his sentence. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=wilson

I agree, it's excessive, but he was probably charged with statutory rape. I think the laws need to be updated, given the, um, sexual activity of the "younger" crowd.

He was convicted of Child Molestation.
Even the jury didn't know about the mandatory minimum.
The funny thing is, under the law at the time, it would have been ok for him to have intercourse with the girl. Just not oral sex.

that everyone involved agrees the girl initiated the encounter.
If he had fucked her, it would be a misdemeanor. But some arcane law makes oral sex a felony.
Edit: The governor should pardon him. Should've done so two years ago.

16. Must be the same logic as "sodomy" laws |
|
Extra time for "unnatural" sex acts. These kids were too young, but they were very close in age, and the fact that oral sex is treated more seriously than vaginal sex just shows how hypocritical the people who made these laws were.
On a side note, the overturning of the sodomy laws in 2003, and the right wing's reaction to it, was a huge factor in me becoming a hardcore liberal! I believe that what goes on between consenting adults in the bedroom is not the government's business..which turned out to be an extremist position according to the right wing!

Whatever goes on between two consenting adults should be between THEM, and THEM ONLY.
There are far more important things the government needs to be sticking their noses in other than what goes on in the bedrooms of America's adults.

Cops go after prostitutes far more often than they do johns. And socially, women are stigatized WAY MORE than men for being sexually active.
I see what you are saying here, but my guess is, he's doing jail time because he's older than her. However, I don't think he should be doing jail time at all. If the girl were FIVE, then, yeah. But 15? Gimme a break.

that socially, women are more affected. But legally? eehhhh... I'm not seeing it.
Johns are arrested all the time. However, a john might spend 20 minutes a month engaged in his illegal behavior. The prostitute (of either sex) spends far more time engaged in such activity, and therefore is just more likely to get caught.
Johns lose their cars, get publicly shamed, get their names in the paper. The prostitute usually spends a night in jail and pays a small fine.
I think you could also make a case that women who screw teen boys get far lighter sentences than men who screw teen girls. Look at the recent teacher cases.
No, I don't think the law is harsher on women than men when it comes to sexual matters.

a wingnut friend of mine says that everyone convicted of oral sex, everyone convicted of sodomy, "it's because somebody didn't like them, they were unpopular in that town"
you know what, much as i hate to admit it -- he's right
the virginia couple who went to prison for oral sex in their own bedroom, their PREACHER spied on them and peeped in their window to provide testimony, think about that for a minute, their PREACHER chose to destroy these people -- there's some backstory there we'll never know, maybe the wife didn't blow the preacher, who knows!
someone chose to destroy this young man, unfortunately i honestly believe it was someone angry and jealous because he was a black homecoming king and popular at his school
that's the way racist fucks think
