I am guilty of lazy verbiage -- for as long as I can remember I've referred to myself as a "democrat" and now I find that it's considered a slur? Mea culpa.

1. Only when used as an ADJECTIVE |
|
As in "Democrat plan" or "Democrat Congress"
but here's a flogging anyway :spank:

2. In the context of "I'm a Democrat" or "the Democrats" |
|
Am I confusing this whole issue? It's ok as a noun but not as an adjective? In that case, whew! But my inner naughty girl still loves an occasional flog.

3. Saying "I'm a Democrat" or "The Democrats" is fine. |
|
Referring to "The Democrat Party" or "The Democrat Senator" is not.
The adjective is Democratic.
