Health Teacher In Trouble For Genital Drawing

ONKERS, N.Y. -- A New York state teacher was banned from classes after having his seventh-grade students draw male genitalia on the blackboard during health class.

A school spokeswoman said the teacher, whose name was not released, was assigned to administrative duties. Schools Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio will ask trustees to fire him at a March 21 meeting.

The Yonkers school spokeswoman said the state's seventh-grade curriculum calls for lessons in human anatomy and sexuality, but said the teacher asking the students to draw male genitals on the blackboard was not appropriate.

The administration learned of the drawings, which occurred in a class of boys and girls at the Pearls Hawthorne school, when a parent complained.

1. On one hand, that's kinda creepy....

...on the other hand, what's the big frakkin' deal? It's Health Class! There's a certain amount of ickiness endemic to Health Class. When I had Health in Junior High, it was taught by the school disciplinarian/shop teacher, which is funny, if nothing else. In fairness, I don't have any particular recollection of drawing human genitalia as part of our assignments, much less having to do it on the blackboard.
