Ex-Major League Pitcher Tug McGraw dies at 59.
Sad news here in Philly, Tugger closed out game 6 of the 1980 World Series and won the Phillies our only championship.

R.I.P. Tug!

5. RIP Tug
"You gotta believe!"

That was from 73 where the Mets went to game 7 of the World Series with an 83-79 record.

Tug also helped the Mets by leaving. The Mets got longtime catcher John Stearns and centerfielder Del Unser for him from the Phills in a 6-man trade both sides no doubt were happy with.

4. Sad in NYC, too
Tug led the Mets down the homestretch in 1973. His signature rallying cry was, "You gotta believe!" We'll never forget him.

God bless, Tug.

7. He is one of my all time favorites.
I still remember him in "Kiner's Korner" in flip flops and a motorcycle helmet, smoking a big old cigar. He was definitely one of a kind.

RIP Tug. I believe!

8. Aw man... I was just thinking about the '73 Mets today...
All the hoohah about Pete Rose's admission that he gambled on baseball made me think back to the '73 playoffs between the Reds & the Mets. I remember when Pete clocked Buddy Harrelson (I've hated Pete since that day - Bud was my hero when I was 8). And now we hear Tug's dead...

My condolences to Tug's family... :(

14. My favorite Tug quote...
...went something like "Remember, ten billion years from now, when the sun's gone out and the earth is a frozen wasteland hurtling through space, no one's going to care if I got this batter out or not."

Didn't he also say that he couldn't tell the difference between grass and Astroturf because he'd never smoked Astroturf? Or was that Bill Lee (another insane lefty)?
