does NOT smell as sweet.
Tell me a phrase that you hear a lot -- at home or at work or whatever -- that absolutely makes you want to run screaming in the opposite direction.
For me, it's 'patch'.
Makes me want to scream when someone says it when they're transferring a telephone call. To someone sitting right beside them. "Let me patch you through..."
ARRRRGHHHHH!!!!!!
There are a few more, but that's the one that's making me cringe tonight.
What are yours?

that one would annoy me as well. Dialogue is something in a book or a script. Not something you do to communicate.
Why can't people just say what they mean? "Talk to your parents." "Get your parents to help you with this."
Sheeesh.

those are bad. And WAY overused.
It's all just so stupid, the things people say when they're trying to sound impressive. Don't they realize that they're usually the only ones who are impressed?

I don't work for a company (particularly a large one) where I'd have to suffer listening to such bullshit. But this thread will make for interesting reading, I'll bet. And it will remind me yet again how fortunate I am, that I don't have to listen to bullshit phrases in meetings anymore.
Hope that all's well with you these days, sweetie.

I'm good, darlin'...been knitting my little fingers to the bone. I've become superstitous about it. Seems that Bailey does well when I'm working on something and falters when I take a break between projects.
So...no more breaks.
Plus, I've got this thingamajig that I'm trying to get finished by March 1.

no big deal, really. I'm working on a little 'fluff' novel and I want to have it down and ready for a final polish by March 1. I figured I'd work on the fluff rather than the other one I've got going because it's just easier. Doesn't take as much thought -- just churn it out.
We'll see.

If I want to be patted on the back, I can show it to a lot of people. Who won't tell me it's crap.
Although this one really is. Genre fluff. Pure mind-drivel. But hopefully it'll be fun. I've really gotta get my discipline back...it's been gone for far too long. Once upon a time, I didn't sleep well unless I'd written at least a little bit. I'd use reading as a reward for getting the work done.
Plus, it really was more fun then.
You're a doll.

Right up there with 'whatever'. Whenever my daughter starts telling me something that involves her saying "like" every third word, I hold up my hand and start counting 'em.
Shortens the story-telling considerably.

20. "This will go in your portfolio." |

One of my professors says this all the time, and I want to tear his face off. This (whatever I do in his class) will *not* go in my portfolio, because when out looking for a job, when employers see 25 people who come out of the same program with portfolios all containing the same stuff, that's 25 applicants who get thrown out right away. :banghead: This will not go in my portfolio. The other, much cooler stuff that I do in other classes and on my own time (mostly on my own time) will go in my portfolio. x(

it doesn't work that way. I did boxing because you did baseball. You do football, I'm gonna hafta counter with something like hockey. And a hockey metaphor might involve pucks.
And that skirts dangerously close to other metaphors which could then turn to euphemisms and then where would we be?
Huh?
