How would one change their DU name?

I'm thinking about changing my DU name. How would one do that?

1. Why would you want to?

You've got a cool user name already!

I asked about this before. Oddly, you can change your REAL name, but not your pretend name.

You could give up your post count, and start over with a new account, but short of that, you can't change it.

2. Go for it!

I gave up my post count to change my username. Where else can you shed your skin and rename yourself? Just put "The DUer formerly known as cool user name" in your sig line for a while so everybody knows who you are.

3. You don't.

You get a new account. Admins have only opened login changes once in the history of DU - after the 2004 elections for a couple of weeks.

4. First, you fill out a "Temporary Sock Puppet" Application

then you appear before the Tribunal.

5. You don't.

Or, there isn't any official way to do so. You could always email the admins and beg. Or you could take the obvious approach, abandon your account and sign up a new one. Just don't use both at the same time, 'cause it's against the rules. That way you lose all your stuff of course, post count and all.
