"Ten Minutes Ago I Saw You.." I just bought Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella! |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-03-07 10:33 PM by 1gobluedem
I am SO excited. I loved that movie as a kid; when my sister and I saw it would be on Wonderful World of Disney we couldn't wait for Sunday night. I found the video for sale on Amazon.
Now I can't wait to share it with my girls, who are nine. And seeing Allan Quartermaine from General Hospital as Prince Charming. Plus Ginger Rogers, Celeste Holm...
Anyone else remember this? With Lesley Anne Warren as Cinderella?

4. I'm not sure about DVD |
|
I bought it on VHS. But I know what you mean. This is the first version I ever saw; when the cartoon came out with the animals so involved I remember yelling "That never happened!"
I hope, hope, hope my girls like it. They loved the cartoon version.

The original starred Julie Andrews as Cinderella and Edie Adams as the Fairy Godmother back in the 1950's. PBS has shown it but I always miss it because I'm never home when it's on. Itr's the only version I've never seen. Maybe I'll check and see if it's available on DVD.
I think my favorite song is "Impossible"
"Impossible for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage. Impossible for a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in marriage. And four white mice will never be four white hourses. Such fol-de-rol and fiddle dee dee of courses. Impossible! But the world is full of zanies and fools who don't believe in sensible rules and won't believe what sensible people say.. and because these daft and dewey eyed dopes keep building up impossible hopes impossible things are happening every day!"

I was in love with Stuart Damon right from the first scene. And I always wanted to be just like Lesley Ann Warren. Oh, indeed, even now I will sit sometimes and sing the songs over and over again.
The version that Brandy and Whitney Houston did was PC, but it in NO WAY matched the original. Wait--I take that back--it wasn't the original. Did you know that Julie Andrews first did it, in (I believe) the late 50s? It, too, is available on DVD, but I haven't picked it up yet.
BTW, if you haven't seen it, I suggest you watch Drew Barrymore in "Ever After" which is another Cinderella revisit, but it's got a very fresh look to it--Danielle is a girl who can watch out for herself!

9. No. But I took my kid to see "The King and I" |
|
In Little Rock, Arkansas recently, and now she wants to go to a magnet school for theater (she's ten).
I'll check the library for their "Cinderella." I've only seen and enjoyed a few of them, but she'd probably enjoy many more. I haven't even shown her "Sound of Music" -- which I don't even like -- but is a requirement for good parenting.
Off to Blockbuster!

I got this version on DVD a couple of years ago. I've sung these songs to my little one many times.

I have the VCR tape, I need to upgrade! My husband does NOT understand my fascination with the movie.
I might also mention that Stuart Damon will always be the definitive Prince Charming...
