Whoa! DRM on Vista! You've got to check this out! |
|
http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm#77Keep in mind, if Microsoft tries to buy other companies' goods and then patent them as their own, Lord only knows how Vista DRM will affect YOU.

3. It means that unless your video card/sound card/etc was |
|
specifically designed to work with Vista's built in copy protection/RIAA Music industry rubbishy protection codes, the operating system (Vista) won't send the sound/video in music and dvd's to the video card/sound card. I.E. you cant play dvds/cds/music on Vista unless your sound card/video card agrees to be hog tied by the RIAA/Movie industry.
This feature will cause millions more people (people like myself) to get fed up once and for all and go all Linuxy.

5. Ironic. Linux has no 'legal' players... |
|
And since Linux can do most of what Windows can, it is viable for most and unlike a "Mac" doesn't require the purchase of new hardware.
But I bet the consumer base will suck it up as usual. :(

4. Fortunately, hackers cracked Vista's DRM system... |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-04-07 02:42 PM by Kutjara
...about two days after the beta release. There are downloadable patches available on the web that will allow people once again to use the hardware and software they legitimately paid for, contrary to M$'s desire that they pay over and over for the same thing, without ever being able to actually use it.
No doubt M$ will patch the patch, which the hackers will then repatch, which M$ will rerepatch, ad infinitum.
