I ruined my dinner tonight
Overcooked the peas (how is this even possible) and my steak. Actually the first time I took it out, it was too rare for me so I out it back under the broiler but then got sidetracked and it overcooked. I couldn't eat any of it and. I should have eaten it anyway. What a waste. Now I am starving. Guess I'll
have some cereal or make a sandwich.

I wish I had someone who liked to cook. I hate it. And I suck at it too, which is why I eat out too much, usually stuff that's bad for me.

1. Don't feel too bad
I'm the same way - can't cook worth anything. :( I'm definitely going to have to a) learn how, b) live off pre-packaged foods, or c) get involved with a guy who can cook. (Yeah, I know how shallow that sounds, lol, but really...what can you do? ) Or maybe some combination of those things. Anyway, the point is, you're not alone.

2. Get a George Foreman Grill!
When I started cooking, it was a life saver. Marinate your meat and throw it on. It's not hard! Also-crock pot cooking is hard to screw up.

I think it's hard to cook for a single person-my issue-so I didn't do it a lot. I'm finally starting to enjoy it a bit more. Start easy and work your way up to the more complicated stuff.

6. I have one
I didn't like the way things turned out with it. Too dry mostly (I guess probably I cooked it to long). I never use it anymore. I don't have a crock pot though.

Part of my problem is I never remember to take things out of the freezer before work so I get home and everything is still frozen.

8. Get a timer
It could help you with the over cooking issue?

11. Probably
It seems I just get involved in something else and stop paying attention. I have burned any number of pizzas that way!

12. Hey...
My old roommate used to pass out with pizza's in the oven. The last time our house smelled like charcoal for a week-he was banned from after-bar use of the oven after that! It was bad when he started passing out before the pizza guy came!

It's easy to get distracted, that's why a timer is cool. Half of cooking is trial and error-most good cooks suck in the beginning! Don't get down on yourself. Another idea would be casseroles that bake for a specific time. Then you don't have to worry about over doing 'em!

10. I didn't like the way it made my house smell.
It took me back to my childhood and my mom frying meat on the stove. The whole house smelled. :puke: I sold it at my garage sale last year.

5. Don't feel bad. That's very easy to do when broiling steaks....
It goes from just right to overdone very, very fast.

7. I prefer to grill them
but someone stole my grill months ago and I have never replaced. It was just a cheap little one. I'll have to buy something harder to steal.
