Reactionary Identity
I wasn't quick enough to get IBTL, so I'll cheat a little and post the comment separately ... regarding ... er, "that other place". It's kind-of a general comment, too, so perhaps it'll survive:

What can you say about a person or group of people who craft their whole identity around reacting to someone else? You could call it sad, pathetic, and even ... hysterically funny! I used to know people like this; they developed such a hate-on for me that they spent hours obsessing, creating web sites, spreading rumors, etc. It was really just amusing. I always saw them (and they came across to everyone else) as tiny little dogs trying to yap at my ankles, almost ripping themselves in half as they frantically lept into the air trying to get a good grip with their tiny little teeth. (No offense, BTW, to real tiny little dogs, whom I adore.) This is the same sort of thing.

As to the "hearts thing," I think it's cute, for those who participate, and it's a nice little bonus for a donation. I personally can't imagine why anyone would feel bad if they don't get one, but then I've never understood people who get all depressive on "Valentine's Day" either. It's just not part of my mentality.

Oh well. Carry on. :)
