PBS Dracula instead of the Grammys [SPOILER] |
|
That's right folks, I didn't hear about the Chicks until I read the NYT this AM.
Watched the new Dracula - Gave me nightmares for the first time in a long while.
Lots of sex, syphilis, Jonathan Harker never makes it out of the castle, no Renfield, some nice special effects and a really nice/nasty twisty surprise at the very, very end.

1. Shoot! I bailed on it. Dracula looked too much like John Mayer for my tastes. |
|
I need a HOT Dracula...dammit!
Now that you've said there is a twist at the end, I'm glad I Tivo'd it.

Shouldn't Dracula be cold?
Mrs GoS was not taken with him. But then she doesn't like the Dracula canon particularly. I only read the original novel about 4 years ago.
I loved the campy one with Anthony Hopkins, especially the scene in the pub after they kill Lucy. There's Hopkins/VanHelsing chewing on a nice bloody steak and Mina asks what happened to Lucy. Hopkins in the cheesiest accent imaginable, with a knife and fork in his hands says, "Vell, ve pud a schtake tru her hard und ve cud oft her head." He then cuts off another chunk of steak and starts chewing. One of the funniest scenes in the movie.

8. 'Member the old one on PBS starring Louis Jourdan as Dracula? |
|
I think it was a miniseries. Very sexy for its time.

But I appreciate that they didn't write the Dracula character as a charming devil in that adaptation.
