science fiction comedy BBC series alien doctor behind-the-scenes mullet cleavage

So I googled the above and came up empty. Maybe someone could help. I caught a show a few months back, maybe on SciFi channel, but I may be wrong, that was a comedy that was a behind-the-scenes look at a really cheesy science fiction show. It was British-ish. Terrible special effects. Raunchy innuendo. Impossibly bad acting with a Jack-Black-ish persona leading. Lotsa cleavage. Some type of killer grasshopper things. Alien-human mutant killer baby things. Lasers. Lotsa cleavage. Mullets.

I understand that doesn't help at all. Sorry.

I don't know if a series really existed, or if this was a mockumentary for a fictitious one. The lead was interviewed extensively, and I think he was the producer and director and wore a bunch of hats. His television character was a middle-aged, pudgy guy with no-talent. But had a script of a some kind of stud.

Except its f/x were extremely good and all the characters were male, apart from a computer generated image and she was only a head. No b00biez...

But "Psirens" (Series 6, episode 1) had lots of eye candy and silly grasshopper things... it's also (IMHO) the only good episode of that year...

9. Sounds like "Red Dwarf" to me too.

Jack Black is that dude from "School of Rock" and "Nacho Libre".

He plays characters a lot like Dave Lister, very sarky and somewhat manic.
