so maybe I can't judge him accurately, but I find his stuff incredibly boring.

Great common-man songwriter, poet, philosopher and storyteller. Cool guy, cool Democrat, loves manatees, flies Grummans, and wrote "Were you born an Asshole?" which is the perfect song about Bush.
But hey, my opinion's about equal to yours, so c'est la vie.

13. "But I know, it's all JEB's fault!" Last line of Margaritaville |
|
He's campaigned for the last few Florida Democrat gunernatorial candidates. For McBride, he performed Margaritaville for a rally, and changed the last line of his song to the one above. He also supported Gore during the 2000 race.
He supported Graham for president. Don't know who he supports now.

His earlier stuff was much more interesting. He's become something of a parody almost.

I met and played with him in Key West (at his place) several years ago. Not very good guitarist, not very good singer. Silly, vacuous songs, IMO.
Not a particularly nice guy, either. Pretty full of himself, and that says a lot, coming from me. The Professor

16. I like his music, but parrot-heads annoy me |
|
I got dragged to a concert once. I did not have fun. I was surrounded by drunken assholes and they were spilling beer all over, and then trying to dance on the wet surface while drunk. As it was "the hill" at Pine Knob (now DTE Music Theater), I had to sit on a blanket on the ground and the idiots kept falling on me. His songs are good party music, but I will never go to another concert.
I prefer the Dead's concerts. I went to one of those at the Palace of Auburn Hills, where I could sit in a seat. Everyone was doing drugs, not alcohol, so the crowd was much more civil, even the acid dancers. It's too bad I'll never get to go see them again.

The only song I ever really liked was 'Drop Kick Me Jesus'!
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life.
Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am
Make me a piece in your master game plan
Free from the earthly temptation below
I've got the will, Lord if you've got the toe.
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life.
Take all the brothers who've gone on before
And all of the sisters who've knocked on your door
All the departed dear loved ones of mine
Stick'em up front in the offensive line.
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life.
Yeah,
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life.

21. Why the Buffett hate? |
|
I mean, you don't like the music, you don't like the music. I'm just having trouble understanding hostility toward him. I like Jimmy Buffett, I think he's highly underrated as a songwriter, and though he's a bit commercialized, some of his recent stuff is actually very good. And he's still selling out tours every summer as he nears 60. You don't like him, fine, but why the Britney Spears-like hostility to him?

I have. He's a tool!
And i would disagree with your assessment of underrated as a songwriter. I would suggest overrated.
But, that's not why i don't like him. He's actually not a good guitarist, not a very good singer, his songs are very one dimensional, and he's not a very pleasant guy. The Professor
