3. Was metal not an option? |

Curious, 'cause when I get the braces off, I have a choice between a bridge and an implant.

5. I THOUGH I SAID 'NO QUESTIONS'! |

<hee> Just kidding. Yep, bovine is cow. It's dehydrated, powdered, irradiated, thermo-blasted, whatever. The doc says he has the best results with it. The other choice is cadaver bone.
I don't have a lot of bone left in my upper jaw, so implants aren't an option. I do have a molar implant in my lower jaw, which feels just like a natchal-borned tooth now.
There was some talk about a "sinus lift" where they go into your sinuses and lay down some more bone, but I just don't think I want to do that. Messing with sinuses can be tricky. I know a guy who had a sinus operation and come out from under with NO sense of taste or smell ever again.
So...I have a removable bridge for upper molars. Doesn't really show and works pretty well.

7. If you're a fellow sufferer? |

I've been fighting this for 30-something years. I made up a mouthwash several years ago that's 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 whatever commercial mouthwash you like. I think it helps to keep the bacteria and abcesses down. I use it for brushing 2 or 3 times a day.
I dreaded the molar implant and today's bone implant, but neither one were nearly as bad as I anticipated. In fact, not bad at all. Today's procedure took all of 15 minutes. The tooth damn near fell out in his hand. I'm OK with needles, but not blades.:-(

10. That mouthwash sounds a lot like one I was prescribed once. |
|
It did help a lot with a worn-gum problem I had around one tooth from brushing too hard. I'm a wimp; don't know if I'll go with the implant or the bridge. The things our teeth put us through!
Hope you get to feeling better soon. :)
