25 Foot Tree Stolen From Front Yard
<snip>

DELRAY BEACH – Police are on the lookout for a 25-foot tall coconut palm tree that was reported stolen from a yard on Wednesday.

Sylvio Pierre-Louis, 50, said he discovered the tree that had been on the east side of his home wasn't there anymore around 4 p.m.

Pierre-Louis valued the stolen tree at more than $400. He told police he gave no one permission to dig up and take the tree.

Another resident at home on the 2100 block of Dorson Way -- Fedric Adonus, 29 – told police a man came to the door on Wednesday and asked to buy the palm tree, but left when he was told it wasn't for sale.

Police are looking for the man who came to the door and are treating the missing tree case as a grand theft.

2. The Algonquin Tree Rustlers: True Story
We used to live near the little town of Algonquin, Illinois.
One of the residential streets was lined with huge old black walnut trees. One morning the residents arose to find most of the trees gone. Only stumps and piles of sawdust remained.

Investigating police concluded that the thieves had used super-quiet chainsaws equipped with auto mufflers. Some large logging trucks with big mechanical grapples had been seen parked in the town the day before.
Very clever and inventive bunch of 'rustlers'.

Black walnut is an extremely expensive and rare wood used in fine furniture.

3. Some trees take a long time to grow and some landscape architects
will insist that the client buy mature trees or those that are already half there to get the desired effect.

However that practice is very expensive, so I am betting that whoever has that tree has some bucks.
