1. You should go into pharmacy...
....then you get drug flash cards. THOSE would be a riot.

3. And then there are the little memory tricks.
e.g., peroneum ON the leg; perineum IN between the legs.

I tried to talk my daughters into transcription so I could put them to work for me, but they opted for pharmacy and real estate. Kids these days! :grr:

I'd make better money if I went that route, but I need to see people.

Sometimes I see more people than I want to!

When I worked at home it was lonely, though. You're right. It is very difficult for some people.

16. Sometimes I like the alone part but after a while it really gets to you
I've been transcribing for 8+ years now. There seems to be a lot of us here in DU! I can't tell you how much that pleases me after being so freaked out at one of the major transcriptionist web sites (I'm not going to name names but its initials would be MTD) where it seems like 99% of the transcriptionists who post are Freepers.

10. The final exam for my med. term. course was postponed
because of bad weather on Thursday. Now I have it Tuesday evening and because of my meltdown the last time idiot contacted me, I haven't worked on it as I normally would. That was in late September, so I have a lot of catching up to do if I want to get my A. I will, of course. :)

34. Any career I can get.
And I don't like that word "career" because it makes it sound like that's where all my energies will go and that would be a lie.

I want to work in a medical office or one of the hospitals. You need to know Bangor to understand why I'd choose this particular goal... it's either something in the medical field, something at the university which wouldn't pay as well, or fast food service. Then there's seasonal work at LL Bean, or oil delivery. My "resume" is empty because I only worked for three years after school and then I was married so I will find work only through recommendation by the school which is why I must have the A - A+ average. All of this is necessary because of the divorce and because I don't envision myself winning the lottery. Until now, though, I've been supported through the STBE and through a trust fund which ultimately disappeared in 2000 - 2001 so I have no resources. IOW, I'm screwed. The only positive, financially, is that I will probably be able to buy a house outright and have no mortgage because I am stepping down in terms of housing and all the rest. Stepping WAY down.

Do I sound defensive? It's because I am. I've messed up my life rather dramatically and I hate it. Oh well.

who are always hounding me. Sometimes a second house in Switzerland sounds pretty good when you're cold. And it's not like I've been having sex with the STBE for the last fifteen years, so how will it be different with the old man?

39. Because then I'd have to go to medical school to support myself!
The only reason I must stay here is because of my kids. Their father will not leave because he's a full professor with seniority at a local college, and I have already traumatized everybody enough. So has he of course, but I put the nail in the coffin of our mouldering relationship. If there was any possible way to move from here I would do so. And if I was in the City, I think I'd stop by with a basket of fruit or something. :P

38. Butting In
a little defensive, but then you think you've screwn yourself. Only because you fail to remember the reasons that you have that you got into the situation in which you perceive yourself to have screwn yourself.

You are a smart person and you have great perceptiveness. I believe that you will succeed at whatever you set your mind to.

Of course I'm biased because I'm head of the crim son fan club

but I also know that you are well above average intelligence, and your biggest problem in my opinion is your failure to forgive yourself for your choices that led to your perceived failure, and then you continue to grieve the other.

Too much in a post?

Sorry if it was

The upside is that now I know I can not rely on somebody to either take care of me or even tell me the truth. How wise am I? :loveya:

8. What class are you doing them for?
I remember when I was in undergrad I had to take a class where we had to learn the origins and insertions of just about every muscle in the body and we had to know them in detail...lateral condyle of the tibia and proximal 2/3 of lateral tibia to plantar surface of first metatarsal and medial surface of first cuneiform, etc...(btw that's the tibialis anterior) and if we didn't know all of that crap we'd get marked off for it. Talk about wanting to bang you head into a wall!

33. Actually, it's dilAtation....another medical transcriptionist here....
Now I'm using a voice recognition system. So now instead of me figuring out what the doctor is mumbling, the computer writes what IT "thinks" the doctor is mumbling, and I get to edit what the computer wrote. For some MDs it works very well, for others not at all. Depends on how much effort THEY put into it, which in many cases is as much effort as they put into penmanship.

57. Did you buy your flash cards or are you making them?
I made my own and found that the process of making them seemed to help a lot. With a lot of the stuff, just the process of having to write the stuff out seemed to cement it firmly in my brain and I barely needed to use them after making them.

Good luck with the terminology class! And do think about getting into transcription if you'd like a job where you can be flexible with working hours and move wherever you want without having to worry about losing your job! That's probably the biggest bonus in my eyes. If I wanted to get up and move somewhere else tomorrow, I could take my job with me!

58. It's a possibility. What I intend to do is get into an office
or hospital situation, and then further my education as it becomes more clear what I want to do. This is a fast program - one year because I already have a bachelor's degree. I'm also concerned about transcription services being outsourced. What do you think of that possibility?

59. I don't think it's going to be a huge problem
Especially now that the Dems are back in power. There was that little dust-up awhile back with the transcriptionist in India? (not sure if it was India, my memory sucks, but overseas, nonetheless) who got pissed off and threatened to put all these medical records on the Internet. Since then, most of the companies I've seen are pretty leery of outsourcing
