question about fox television for the lounge
Posted in GD, but I want a broader response:

Can anybody tell me about the relationship, if any, is between local Fox affiliates and the disgusting rightwing propaganda Fox News? I don't watch television so I am really clueless here.

2. The local affiliates seem to be fairly independent of the cable based Fox News Channel.
At least where I live...

I don't know about their corporate structure.

9. Some are, some are not
News Corp. does own a few Fox stations, usually in larger markets. KMSP, Fox 9 in the Twin Cities is one example of a Fox-owned station. They have nothing but fluff on their many news hours, worse than than the other stations. You cannot break the mold of a typical suburbia day. They also have Cavuto segments and the graphics have a change towards a Fox News-ish graphic design.

3. FOX affiliates carry FOX network programs. FOX News is a separate cable station.
The FOX network and FOX News Channel are connected through the parent corp. but are two different entities.

The FOX network affiliate in the Bay Area has more quality news reporting in the first five minutes of any broadcast than FOX News has in a year. In some markets the FOX affiliate is conservative, but the FOX designation doesn't guarantee it.

5. That was kind of the impression I had - I think the local one carries
a lot of entertainment - sit coms and such - not much news at all.

Damned skippy. It and KCRA have the best newscasts in northern Kollyforniya.

Edit: And KCRA is Hearst-Argyle, so that's sayin' somethin'.

8. I noticed some slip after Faux bought 'em
As an independent, they were without peer. But it's still a damned good news production.

And Sara Sidner is freakin' gorgeous. :loveya:

10. Local Fox News was pretty good in Pittsburgh
until they were bought out/coopted by the NBC affilliate. Straightforward news with very little of that "common household products may contain plutonium, we'll tell you which ones tomorrow!" shit.

11. check out 'Outfoxed' they sometimes had independance but ...
it seem's to be overridden when convenient or Roger Ailes wanted the noise machine to kick in.

There's lots of clips/excerpts on YouTube and I think the whole thing is streamed from onegoodmove.com and google videos.

12. They are separate.
Though the FOX Network affiliates very well might get news feeds from Fox News, they are separate companies.

That's why FOX News has hannity, O'Lielly, and other filth; and Fox network has Family Guy, Simpsons, and other clever, creative, hilariously well done stuff, etc.
