I made a mistake today, and now Mrs R is mad at me.
I got out the electric clippers to trim my beard today because I was looking unprofessionally bushy (not to mention heavily grey), and I didn't have the comb securely attached to the clippers so I gouged a BIG hole in the old Facial Foliage, so I just said the hell with it even though it's not really Spring yet, and just went ahead and cut the whole beard off.

So, when Mrs R left the house for some errands, I looked pretty much like this:

And when she came home half an hour later, I looked essentially like this:

I didn't think she'd mind, but she was complaining the whole day about how she'd have to go with me everywhere now, to "guard me," whatever THAT means.

I don't get it.

(Or maybe I do, because I told her that if I heard even ONE more complaint, the mustache was history.)

2. Why, thank you. Hey, are you moving back to New Hampshire this summer?
Or are you sticking with Florida?

6. I rented another place down in Nokomis, but that doesn't mean I won't be back there.
I really like my job....so far. Anything could change...like a hurricane could happen...then I'll be GONE.

You are quite attractive with that beard, Bud. You're quite attractive period, come to that.

4. Is she trying to hide you under that facial foliage????
The moustache is good, I say keep it. Just my 2 cents, it is, after all, your face. :-)

5. I did somethin' sorta like that once
Had the trimmer head set at '1' steda '2' and made a skid mark right down the center of my neck, from the chin nearly to the adam's apple.

I swear I can still see it. :banghead:

7. You look a few years younger without it
and maybe that's the problem. Now she must compete. Wives hate looking older than their men. As bad as it sounds, that is how some women feel.

10. That's what she said. But she doesn't hardly look older than me, even though
she is, by a year. You be the judge, and I'd value your opinion:

15. Actually, she looks very young...
and pretty. Hey... nice bottle of wine in the back ground.

This is what happened to me a year ago. My hubby decided, for some crazy reason, to lose weight. He went to the gym everyday and ate mostly salads until he lost 20 lbs. He looked very handsome and I didn't felt comfortable going out cause I felt he looked better than me. I know what people is going to think but hey... some of us are stupid like that. My friends were all telling me about how handsome he looked and what was that all about.

One night we went out to a bar with a few friends and some girl not related to the party (seated in a table across from us) approached me (from all people!!!) inquiring about my husband. I told her I was his wife and she panicked! Of course, she apologized. That bothered me a lot and that made me adjust my level of comfort meaning that I had to spend time and money on more "girly stuff"; the hair, the nails, more make up, etc. He made me move from that zone. I went back to the gym, had to eat right, etc. He gained the weight back and I am now 34 pounds lighter. Now he is the one fuzzing over it.

16. Sometimes it does end up being a competition even if we dont' intend that, yes?
It's just people being human, and insecure at heart, and vulnerable. Just the human condition.

13. That's her complaint; she said it knocked ten years off. But see the pictures of her
that I posted upthread; my contention is that now, people who see us together won't be thinking "Oh look, how wonderful, there's that nice young woman taking her uncle out to lunch."

17. Gotta say, I like you better with. But you're not exactly an ogre without
I remember when the former Mr. Critters did the same thing. I was unhappy. Part of it was the shock, and it just seemed wrong. I adjusted.

But I do understand Mrs. R's feelings.

You're a fine lookin' gent either way!!

22. Yes, that's what she meant, and as much as I appreciate it as a compliment from both you
and her...but hey, this is the real world we're talking about. I escaped from the grocery store this very afternoon with my clothing and person intact...

Thanks for the compliment, though; who among us can ever get enough of those?

I also think you look better without the beard. Maybe younger but definitely livelier and more fun.

27. What a nice comment. We are well-matched indeed, and it's my fervent hope that
all of the righteous (that is to say, all DUers) are, or will be, so fortunate as to be so well-matched in their own lives as well. That's my hope. We all of us deserve that one basic thing, which is to be happy (or at least content) in life.

29. You miss the Daily Agony? I'm not looking forward to it either. Though I've heard and read
that if we go back to the old-fashioned ways of shaving soap and a badger-bristle brush, that our Daily Scrape will be much easier.

I may try that, though extending it to the straight razor and the leather strop is WAY out of my league.

I hated when my hubby shaved his beard off without prior warning. Then he reminded me that he hated when I cut my hair off without prior warning. We never did those things again.

28. Hubby and I like to surprise each other with new hair.
He loves that it sometimes takes me HOURS to notice when he has shaved off facial hair. I think I just see "him" not the hair or not hair. Does that make any sense????

31. Not us.
I didn't care what he did to the hair on his head, it was just the beard I didn't like shaved off. He could trim it but leave a little something.

I didn't think he cared about my hair cuts until "Black Friday". He left for work that morning, my hair was past my butt. When he got home that evening, it was above my shoulders. Not a good night to be me. :scared:

It does make sense what you are saying though, about seeing him and not the hair. I didn't always notice his hair cut but I did notice the facial hair changes.

in ONE day, you'd better damn well notice it, or be prepared to take the consequences, buddy.

32. Which will likely never happen. I've had long hair since I was about 14, and
through the 40 or so years since then, I've been in and out of fashion more times than I can remember. But I remain as I am.

Isn't it good to know that there are some things that endure, and will never change? Like your eyes, for example. And, as you said, my hair.

We all need something, and we're each of us lucky if we have one thing.

Because one thing is a whole bunch better than nothing, yes?

And with that, I bid you and all the other worthy DUers good night.
