Has anyone ever mistaken you for another race?
For some reason, I get told that I look Asian quite a bit. It's odd that a person of German, Irish, and Swedish descent gets told he looks Chinese or Samoan about once a month.

But I've never had anyone think I was another, or different, race than I am......

12. How could anyone as dynamically gorgeous as you...
... be mistaken for a man!?

I personally don't see how I get mistaken for Asian. I do have skin that looks a little more tan than most white guys, and I have dark straight hair, but that's where it stops.

Who knows?

When my hair was shorter, and from the back......I could have looked like a man, a little....

Tall, fairly wide shoulders, no sign of tits....... = male!

Go figure!

Thank you for the really lovely comment!

5. Not me, but my dad used to pass for Hispanic...
He's fluent in Spanish but he's an American of eastern European descent.

One time we were in a car dealer, about to drop maybe $12,000 on a car (early-mid 90s), and nobody would give him the time of day.

We realized later it was because my dad was wearing a shirt with Spanish on it, and the dealership employees were being bigots.

I've got some Native American heritage, and my skin's a few shades darker than most of the other people in my immediate family. I get asked if I'm Asian or Spanish often. More recently, someone thought I was a native Hawaiian.

I'm fairly pale, light-brown hair, green/hazel eyes, and my facial hair is reddish. I've been told at various times that I looked Irish, or German, or French, and got mistaken for Dutch in Amsterdam until I spoke, which I guess means that I look like a fairly generic Northern European.

27. Though I'm Irish...
believe it or not...a few times when I was younger and out at the dance clubs...dancing with a baseball cap down over my face...I was mistaken for black.

It happened several times...and it was by black women.

Not until we'd leave the club...would they realize under a street light...that I'm a white guy.

I have no idea how...but they would tell me I "moved" like a black guy.

I know I can dance...but an Irish guy mistaken for a black guy? C'mon.

38. A lot of Irish people have "black" features-
One of my daughters has hair that's way curlier than her black cousins', and I have a "black" nose! Except for skin color, we could pass from the neck up. On the other hand, as my mother says "Irish lasses, they have no asses!" It makes it tough to get pants to fit properly!

I am about as white as person can be and I have black hair and hazel eyes. I can almost understand the being mistaken for Irish - I'm actually Welsh and Lithuanian and look very Welsh - but I don't look Irish aside from the coloring, and I'm sure I don't I look black/white or white/Chinese (not Asian - it's always Chinese!) but I'm always flattered when anyone thinks I look like I could belong to their group!

33. Someone once thought I was an Israeli Jew
I have no idea why, except that he's a devout Orthodox Christian from Ethiopia and I'm the offspring of a very lapsed Catholic Italian and a very lapsed Lutheran German-English-Cherokee and I don't partake in the debates between him and my Catholic I-went-so-seminary-school-for-a-year-before-joining-the-Army boss.

Wow, that's a hell of a run-on sentence. But I digress.

I mean, this guy follows the Biblical eating code that Jews follow. No pork, no shellfish, etc. Makes ordering pizza hard because the pepperoni and sausage contains pork!

And right now he's fasting for Lent or something. No meat or cheese. And he fasts every Wednesday, too.

They even listed her as that on her military ID card once.

Our background is Irish and Sicilian. She has REALLY curly hair, and becomes very, very dar in the sun. When they lived in Germany and would visit Italy, Italians would just chat with her in Italian. I, on the other hand, have insane Mick hair and will tan, but it's always a ruddy tan.

My ex is 1/4 African American, and we lived in a place with a large Hispanic population, so people often mistook him for Latino. My Dad was just insanely dark-tanned. He was a Carpenter, working year after year on roofs and job sites--that tan never faded, not even in the winter. His legs were pasty white, though. It was funny. :)
