So why the fuck was Bill O'Lielly on Oprah yesterday? |
|
I was getting our Lost tape ready to watch when I caught a few minutes of Oprah last night. The episode was about kidnapped children and the question of why don't they run from their abductors when they have a chance. She had a guest who was abducted for 18 months when he was 13. That makes perfect sense, of course.
But then she had Bill O'Lielly on later in the episode as some kind of "expert" talking about "his crusade to keep pedophiles behind bars." Okay, fine, that may be a noble thing. But can't Oprah get an ACTUAL expert? One that isn't an right-wing, foam-sputtering idiot? What the fuck?
I unfortunately caught a few minutes of Bill's spiel when I finished watching Lost and stopped the tape. He wasn't even making sense. He started shrieking about something like "ALL men (note: of course, only men can do this) should tell their children constantly that they are their heroes and that they will protect them and save them no matter what so that child should fight back as hard as they can if they are abducted because they know their dad will come and save them." The actually sentence that came out of Bill's lie-hole was actually much longer, much more run-on, and much more convoluted than that. Even Oprah was having a hard time looking like she understood what he was saying. It was utterly ridiculous.

1. The Loofer talking about 'sexual aberration'? |
|
Oprah *had* to be using him as comic relief!

2. She needed to call him out on the fact that he |
|
said Shawn Hornbeck 'liked it'. He's a vile, revolting POS.
Oh, and as a mom, I'd fight to the death for my child, so that misogynist 'Dad' crap was bullshit. Not that Dads won't protect their children, but that apparently only Dads are qualified.

4. I know -- I'm surprised she didn't, especially because of her background |
|
As a sexually abused child.

5. I kept watching it thinking that the only reason he was even on the |
|
show was so that he could apologize for his remarks. Very, very disappointing.

6. She made a very vague reference to his comment (about enjoying |
|
it), and completely let him off the hook. There was a real-time discussion of the show in GD yesterday, and I decided to e-mail Keith Olbermann about the whole exchange (and I'm sure hundreds if not thousands of others did as well). http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=261240&mesg_id=261240They ended up sharing the title of Worst Person in the World last night!! :woohoo: :applause:

7. I had actually forgotten about the Shawn Hornbeck comment (more like blocked |
|
it out because it's so revolting). Now I'm even more disgusted by the whole thing.
But yeah, the whole "Dads must...." thing was really pissing me off. Most moms I know would have the strength to overturn a truck if someone was threatening their children. Like you said, not that Dad's *can't* do it, but of course Bill has to be a sexist pig as well as an idiot.

3. KO had both of them as the first of his Worst Persons yesterday |
|
I didn't exactly understand why as I was just tuning in when I saw that. Now, thanks to you, I do. :hi:

8. I'm no fan of Oprah but Bill is still much worse. She definitely made a really bad |
|
decision putting him on her show at all, much less putting him on *that* episode.
I'm sure she could've found a hundred experts in child abduction who could give truly helpful advice on how to help keep kids safe. What poor judgment having that POS on for any reason.
